mid plate

I keep splitting bell housings, has any one put a mid plate in a 3rd gen. f-body with stock motor mounts and stock trans mount? What do i need to do? How hard is it to do? Thanks Tony

Re: mid plate

I don't even use a mid plate. I'd want a removable tranny tunnel before I think about using a mid plate. I use a front motor plate, poly tranny mount and an engine locater to keep the engine moving forward and backward. This is needed when using a front motor plate since it flexes.

If you're breaking the bellhousing, there's too much torque twist somewhere. Get rid of those stock mounts. Use poly or solid engine mounts and a poly tranny mount. If you're still breaking bellhousings after that, chain the engine down to restrict how much it will torque over.

To properly use a mid plate, you also need a torque converter designed for use with a mid plate.

Re: mid plate

ive seen mid plates with a flex plate spacer to offset the thickness of the mid plate.
