Re: The Japanese heat extractor build...for my bird
Honestly, I really don't know why all the secrecy, but it's kinda fun to participate in. You and me both know who has it now. I guess it's more of a suspense thing to see the unveiling of the finished product, which I will admit that I'm pretty excited about. He never told me to be secretive about it but I'm also not just going to openly tell who got it. I know for a fact that it's whereabouts will be public before too long though...whether it is in this thread to finish it up or if it makes it's completed debut in another thread.

Re: The Japanese heat extractor build...for my bird
Damn it pisses me off how people manage to start arguments on almost any thread about anything.....
Anyway with all ranting aside, that hood looks fantastic, even on that base 89 bird. I have a feeling that I might've said this already but I hate almost every non-factory hood... but I'd buy this one in a heartbeat!

Haha stephen, you would! Will look killer when it is finished.
Hey! You actually shaved the bumper, I remember seeing threads about it but they were only photoshopped. Do you have a thread, or more pictures of it?

So did you have any issues with the strut tower brace, thought you were running one?

All the way home & running around yesterday, my temp gauge never got over the 170/180 mark, and it used to run at the 200-210 mark. Outside temps here are still in the low to mid 70s during the day, so no 110 day temps but it isn't real cold either.

I'm not a cosmetics guy in anyway and have never seen a hood other then stock I like until about 2 minutes ago. This thing is awesome. FYRCHKN you are an artist man plain and simple. That looks like it is meant to be there.

I'm finally back home and we're going to hit both the Camaro and Firebird heat extractor hoods hard this week/weekend.
We finally got straight hoods for both the bird and Camaro so hopefully I'll have some progress pics here in the not too distant future.

Since you're going with a similar design with your hood would it be too much to ask that it be called the Fyrchkn hood? I'll admit, I'm looking for a little fame here.

Undoubtedly though, at least on TGO it will be known by 2 names, much like the Jongbloed/Sunoco hood is.

Who is the company that will be producing this hood? What kind of reputation/history does this company have, to stand behind its products?

Re: The Japanese heat extractor build...for my bird
I'm confused - WE are making the hoods. My partner in this business venture has been a fiberglass manufacturer in the hotrod industry for 30+ years.
Reference:
Bear Fiberglass
Superior Glassworks
Both are companies he started, which are still operating using the molds that he tooled.....

You list LeConte Customs in your sig, but nothing there at that address. Is this a brand new company with no business background behind its name/reputation for products?

Who is "we"? Dante93GTZ Inc.? Is it just 2 guys that know 'glass, but aren't a business? Trying to start a business, with these hoods as your first offerings? Is Bear Fiberglass selling these? Is Superior Glassworks selling these? Or are both of those companies no longer in existence?

Re: The Japanese heat extractor build...for my bird
Something wrong with doing that? He has it in his Phootobucket & has it on the ATGO site, linked from his Photobucket, so I just did the same & copied the link.

If he tells me to remove it, I will. Has he told you that I need to?
I'm curious as to why you care. You a close friend of his? Has he said something to you about it?

Can someone get some more pics of the finished product? I am going to build one w/ my IROC hood in Jan. I've got a body shop and all of the tools to finish this thing in a weekend w/ paint!

The hood lives, but still not finished. I purchased it this past week-end.
I've had many 3rd gen birds, but currently don't have one. I'm still not decided if I want to sell it or put it on something.

Re: The Japanese heat extractor build...for my bird
I've read every single post on TGO about the elusive heat extractor hood. It seems to be the "bigfoot" of the thirdgen world. Everyone has seen pics of it, but no one has actually seen one in person.
I took it upon myself this weekend to hack up a base bird hood full of hail dings in hopes of creating the first all steel thirdgen bird heat extractor hood.....or at least my take on it.
It is no where near finished, but after a few hours Friday night, yesterday afternoon, and a couple of hours today I am getting close to having proof that at least one does exist....at least in central Texas.
I have already checked the fitment on the car and the extractor scoop has plenty of clearance above the accessories. I still need to modify the stock bracing to fit in the raised section of the hood and reinstall it.
For the moment I have only roughly ground down the welds. I still need to run a sander over them to smooth them out, and then the whole hood gets a skim coat of filler to smooth out all of the hail dings and any other imperfections.
Here you go.....

And this hotrod08 guy really should start his own thread rather than posting in this one.

Thanks Albani, daylight pics
As I am pretty new to forums in general, I will start a new thread, I am sorry for any wrong doing.
As for the nose of this car, it is intended to look simple, however..... the fixed headlights behind the grill and cooling fans moved infront radiator (the grill, headlight buckets n all the brackets also made by me, not counting the shrouding for fans and how to brace the front subframe horns while still keeping the front open)
the results, runs incredibly cool (stuck in traffic it may reach 180 on a hot day but avg temp is 165) an increase in milage thanks for all the input, and I will start a new thread for any future posts
