Anyone have a fuel cell in there third gen? I am trying to keep it street/strip, really dont want to be smelling gas the whole ride, and where do you have it mounted..ect...? I know it looks like theres not much room, and i also have my battery relocated to the back and the nos in the back, but i can move the stuff around. Just looking for how people have set theres up. thinking I will be taking out the back seats also, but I want to do this stuff and have it still look good. thanks

 

To allow it on the strip, you can't have it inside the car without some kind of firewall to separate the fuel cell from the driver. Since third gens are a hatchback, there is no trunk that can easily be sealed off.

Relocating the battery also needs a master switch mounted at the rear. It needs to be installed and wired as per NHRA/IHRA rules to be allowed on the strip.

The NOS also needs an external blow off tube.

 

Yeah I have all the battery and nos hooked in place, just thinking about putting a fuel cell in, the stock tank is a crappy set up for me.

 

I do not have one, but what I have seen the most common is.
A fuel cell in the lower part of the truck area. Above it on a hinge is a "door" that covers is, and is the "firewall" as Stephen states.
I do not have a rule book, (summit has them for about 10 dollars last time I looked) but I belive it states that it must also be vented outside the car.

 

It's best that you pick up a rule book and follow the guidelines when installing a fuel cell. A tech inspection can fail the car if something isn't correct. It's up to you to make sure everything is installed properly.

One rule that many people fail to find and tech inspectors may not always check. "Fuel cell must not be higher than top of tires". Mounting a cell on top of the area where the stock tank is, puts it too high.
