Chin Spoiler/Front Valance
Chin Spoiler/Front Valance
I picked up a 1984 nosepiece and chin spoiler today, but they are both pretty beat. I wouldn't have even bought them, but until I started looking I didn't realize how hard the chin spoiler/valance is to find. Is there any good source for chin spoiler/valances that is reasonably priced?
I did find one on the internet for about $150, but I wonder about aftermarket fitment issues? Also, I don't really like the center vent holes in the original and hate to spend good money and still have a feature that I don't like, even though that's how they were made originally.
I'm seriously considering taking my floppy, cracked one and using it as a form to make a mold for a home built fiberglass part. I've got a little bit of amateur experience with fiberglass work and I think I could probably do it fairly well. It would be a LOT of work though. Does anybody think there would be any interest in having something like this to make available to members on this site?
Or is there already another good alternative?

Man, around here, you can hardly even find a gen 3 Camaro in a yard, let alone one with any good parts left. Oddly enough, you can sometimes find a Firebird though.
And I can find a few nosepiecs with private owners, but the chin spoiler is always missing.

I'd go for some of the fbody junkyards, or check online classifieds. It may take a few weeks, but you can find the parts around still. It's hard up here in NS, Canada to find good used parts too. There is nothing in the junkyards. I usually stick to the racing sites and car classifieds, and something usually turns up, but its getting harder.
Fibreglass tends to crack very easy if hit on something, and our chin spoilers seem to take a beating, the factory pieces are decent, but are obviously not indestructable. If you want to make something, see if you can get a more flexible material and don't forget the flex agent in the paint!
Cheers,
-Brad.
