I have a buddy who is getting a intake manifold powder coated for like 75.00 and with it being such an affordable price I was thinking about getting some stuff done. I am planning on a new engine swap within the next year or two so I wouldn't mind doing the manifold when I do the swap but I was wondering what else I could do. So if any of you have done this to some parts let me know post some pics etc.

Re: Powder coating parts.
You can powder coat almost anything. Engines look really good when coated vs. paint. All you need to make sure is all bolt holes are clean before you put the engine back together.

I'm going to get the brackets and MiniRam done on mine.

Re: Powder coating parts.
i beginning to stray away from powdercoating. Yes it looks nice when its new, but if it gets chipped, rubbed, faded, ect, its a bitch to touch up. I going back to paint personally on most things.

You didn't powdercoat the heads, I assume right?

How's it holding up, on the block? What did that set you back, if you don't mind me asking? Looks good

Re: Powder coating parts.
yes the heads are done as well

its holding up great, car hasnt seen much road time since motor and turbo but its holding up as good as anything would, lots of people think that the powder will hold more heat in but it doesnt car runs the temp its supposed to

it didnt cost much as i have a buddy that did all of it

Re: Powder coating parts.
Oh that's awesome, I was hoping you'd done the heads too actually. I've got a pair I want to powdercoat (well, a whole motor actually) and I was afraid it might not hold up well around the exhaust ports

The theory about powdercoating holding more heat in is BS, at the temperatures motors operate in anyway

Re: Powder coating parts.
I had my TrickFlow heads and RPM Air-Gap manifold powdercoated clear. The heads have held up great, the intake has dis-colored a bit around the carb base though. Other than that I love it, it has the natural aluminum look and cleans up easily.

Sounds like powdercoat doesn't hold up great to gasoline eh? That's good to know. I wonder how it does with oil

Powder coating holds up very well to gas, oil, and petroleum based substances compared to any other paint be it lacquer, or enamel based. Nothing is going to hold up perfect to constant contact with gas, and oil but powder coating does a near perfect job. The yellowing you might see in a clear is just the gas evaporating and residue getting embedded into the small pores. Also that same yellowing you would see in a clear over time you might never see in a color.

Chipping a good powder-coat is also very difficult. My lift is powder coated red and aside from were I roll the cars up and where the wheels touch the base there is no sign of wear after 3 years. The lift is also washed with full strength degreaser at the end of every month, and touched up in between. Need I mention the constant contact with brake fluid, oil, and antifreeze.
