How To: 4TH Gen Windshield Washer Jug
Time: 2 Hours
Level: Intermediate
Material: All depends how you fabricate everything. Me; a stick of 1x12 12g steel, nuts, bolts, saw, drill, screw driver, solder iron, solder, heat shrink, sticky pads & zip ties (think i forgot something but cant figure what it is)
Process:
I went to the local junkyard and removed a coolant jug from a 93 firebird v6, these jugs are all in 93-02 firebirds (i think camaros as well); but are located in the front bumper. Takes a bit of maneuvering when you have a front end collision firebird and try removing one of these! So bring a socket set and crow bar if needed. Cost me $16 to purchase this and remove it myself from the junkyard.

I then went to the local advance auto parts and purchased a new washer pump and 10' of 7/32 tubing (if im not mistaken what stock is). Total came to $25.

Park your car in a nice warm area to work... luckily i was able to go in after hours at my job and use our shop.

Just so you know I own a 1989 rs camaro 305tbi; it had duct work infront of the radiator because i put a z28 nose on. So i had to remove the duct to maneuver.
I then measured out how much of the steel i needed to make the brackets. It came out to being 2"-1.5"-2.5" (up right down)

I raised the jug to where i wanted to line up the brackets and sharpied lines to where i want to bolt these. I drilled a 1/4-20 taped hole into the front to hold the jug and 2, 8-32 in the rear; one over the other.
I used the top screw as a stud to hold it up while the bottom i nuted in the rear. Just so you know you'll have to drill these holes yourself and if you drill a hole above 1/4" from the radiator support frame its a boxed stamped steel frame so you wont be able to get through.
After holes were drilled i underbody coated the brackets because thats all i had available; you could paint these whatever you want, even vomit rainbows over them if you'd like.
Pictures below show them mounted and nutted on.

I then bolted the jug on with 1/4-20 1/2" 1/4-20 flat washer and a nylon nut (keep in mind that i did tap the bracket so its not necessary to have a nut if you did but i like to be extra per-cautious.

After I got this in I made a extended wire-harness for the pigtail of the connector that connects to the pump. I want to advise you all that the connector is the same as the thirdgens but with smaller gauge wire. Our stock thirdgen wire is 18gauge while the fourth gens have 20 gauge wire. So if you'd like you may use the connector you already have, i cut about 4 inches into the wire off and added about 5' of red & blue 18 gauge wire. I tinned both ends and heat shrunk them. You dont have to do this you may use butt connectors but i work for a company that builds junction boxes and circuits so i have the tools for this. I like to be a little nicey-nice with my wire jobs. :P

Re: How To: 4TH Gen Windshield Washer Jug
I do advise it gets a bit cramp so i ran all my wires and hoses from the bottom of the jug and used sticky bases and zip-ties along the bottom to make it nice. I also slit-loomed alot of this so the wires and hose doesnt rub to much against the body.

A heads up, if you aren't able to find stock thin wiper coolant hoses, then be advise you'll have to drill out a bit more of the hole that the hose runs through on the firewall. I used a thin uni-bit and ran about 2 hole sizes bigger. Ran very easy through after, since advance had thick hoses only. (might be new design for pressures) Once through and connected to the T you're all set. Don't worry about the trim that has the wirenet that catches all the debre, it pops out just use a flat head screw driver and theres two tabs and one end to pop and reach in.
Then remove old thirdgen stock coolant jug (you could do this in the beginning but i was to lazy and if i screwed up atleast i could revert to it without hassle)
After that your finished product may look something like this..

Just to add I used the stock cap and filter to make it look nice imo.

If you have any questions please ask.
I tried the best I could to make an easy how-to on this for others.
Enjoy.

Re: How To: 4TH Gen Windshield Washer Jug
the one you are talking about i think is the one i had to remove for the intercooler, and we had to cut a bit of the brace for the bumper as well but the bottom bolt hole wasnt being used anymore anyways due to intercooler
*edit...reading that again the criss cross round bars are still on there in front of the radiator they werent in the way at all
looking at your pics...i wonder if my headlight bar is going to fit back on. hmmm

I'd guess (going by pictures) not an issue. Same mounting height (or depth, I guess), his is just more forward to clear the latch support.
Coolant ? Is that next to the blinker fluid and high speed muffler bearings ? lol... I couldn't resist.

[quote=deadbird;4782254] haha; i dont know; i went to advance and they had "wiper coolant hoses", some generic looking box with 6' of it. So i was using there words.

IF this was 15 years ago, I'd be asking if you had to use a left handed screwdriver to change it.

Left handed screwdriver would be kept next to your metric crescent wrench, right ? lol
I'm done derailing this post now

Re: How To: 4TH Gen Windshield Washer Jug
I'm going to have to hit a junkyard now and find that. Just have to find the time between both of my cars and the huge list of things I need to do. And school, work, and social life.
Re: How To: 4TH Gen Windshield Washer Jug
Did you make any brackets to support the bottom of the bottle? Looks a little flimsy with just two 'skyhooks' holding it in place...

Re: How To: 4TH Gen Windshield Washer Jug
When i did remove the jug the 4th gen doesnt have a bracket on the car to mount the bottom holes; which i found odd.. but thanks and this is a good headsup for others. this will be a bit flimsy, though narrow space you got about a quarter inch of space of wobble room back and forth!
