Wheelie bars
Wheelie bars
I have a couple of questions about wheelie bars.
I ordered the competition engineering 4 link Frame rail kit "c1423" it does not have the wheelie bar holes in the 4 link brackets is there a way I could drill out the brackets to make them fit a wheelie bar setup or should I make a new bracket for the wheelie bar all by its self?
What kind of wheelie bars do you use, I would love to see pictures of the setup everyone used for Ideas?
Thanks,
Chris

Re: Wheelie bars
It depends on the style of wheelie bars you want to use. The aluminum leaf style is inexpensive and lightweight. The weld on brackets do not have to be positioned off the 4-link brackets. It's not uncommon to cut the mount brackets and position the upper mounts inward.
Full tubular wheelie bars simply use tabs for mounting. The tabs can be welded on wherever works best and again, the upper mounts can be installed inwards.
Although I've considered wheelie bars, I don't need them. I just tighten up my front extension or shorten the travel limiters and it keeps the front wheels on the ground. I only pull big wheelies during open test and tune days when I'm out having fun. During competition, I try to keep the front end down by other methods. The wheelie bars are only a safety device if you can't keep the front end down any other way. Tubular wheelie bars also add extra weight that you probably don't need.

Re: Wheelie bars
My biggest thing with wheelie bars is since I am building the car from scratch I want to add in the things I may need latter so I have all of my bases covered I may never need the wheelie bars, but would like to be able to bolt them on win and if the time comes to it. I was looking at the tubular wheelie bar from Competition engineering. My main goal is to see what everyone did with there wheelie bar and see what I need to do to get it set up for future use. I like the Idea of pulling the wheelies and I understand that you lose time when you do it but it looks pretty cool to me haha!

Re: Wheelie bars
When I first installed my 4-link, I figured I was going to need wheelie bars. After a few seasons of racing, I still don't have any. If your car doesn't pull wheelies, you don't need them. If you decide later that you do need them, they can easily be added on.
Re: Wheelie bars
I might not need the wheelie bars for know or i might not need them ever I just want to make sure that I can add them on latter or have it ready to add on later. Same thing with the parachute I may not ever need it but want to have the bracket in place in the event I need it. It may be some time before I am pulling the wheelies so I can wait on the wheelie bars.
