Just drop the tank it's not that hard just make sure the tank's not full and if you have a buddy to help its fast maybe.....3 hour's

Alot better than hacking up your car

Yes, you will have to modify the lines. Most people cut and splice them. I wouldn't recommend it as it's pretty easy to just drop the tank, but it's your car.

If you do do it radius your corner cuts, else they may stress and rip.
Becareful when cutting because you will be close to the tank and lines. I wouldn't recommend just hacking away with reckless excitement.

Summit Racing sells some nice access door panels for a nice finish.

cut the lines with a tubing cutter, then use compression fittings.

Re: fuel pump trap door

so a compression fitting just clamps onto the line? seems like it would need a flare to hold it on the line under pressure...no?

Re: fuel pump trap door

yes they have ferrels that crimp on the line and they are normaly used on hydraulic systems.better and safer than rubber hose.you just tighten them with a wrench

Re: fuel pump trap door

I'd use fuel injection rated hoses and fuel injection clamps OR go with ones you can tighten with a wrench like stated. I wouldn't attempt to push the high pressure fuel through a normal rubber hose.

Re: fuel pump trap door

If I remember correctly compression fittings do need flared, anytime you put a fitting on a hardline you need to flare the line so it stays on there to the best of my knowledge.
While that is indisputably the better route to go, and easier to connect/disconnect and less likely to leak or cause problems, you can use rubber hose, Idk why so many people think you can't use rubber hose in fuel systems, when you get a new fuel pump, it has a hose right on the output side to connect to the sending unit, and theres 2 hose sections in the engine bay also to allow the system some flexibility when the engine moves.
As for covering it, summit sells some trap doors, probably the best way to do it, though I wish there was one out there that used seals of some sort.

Re: fuel pump trap door

the only reason I,m considering putting a trap door in my car is that with putting in the C4 IRS is the amount of work to pull the tank, I already have an external pump, so the only reason is the sending unit.
So why?? pros- can change sending unit in short time, cons- how often do you need to change a sending unit or fuel pump??
