Cowl hood question

I have a 4" cowl hood on my 84 camaro. I want a plate to block of engine heat to the air filter and to seal the to the inside of the cowl like the picture below.

does someone sell these or do i need to make one from scratch. I know i will probably have to modify one that i buy to make it work but i want a starting point.

next question I may try to trade my 4" cowl for a 2" cowl and if i do that i want to make a shaker induction. i have seen some do the shaker from the 2nd gen camaro but as crazy as it sounds i like the shaker on the 04 body style ford mustang mach 1. has anyone tried that before?

any comments or suggestions.

Re: Cowl hood question

There may be a few generic kits available but they're always cut and modify to fit. Most of the air pans I've seen are always custom made.

You probably won't be able to find the pieces you're after, but it shouldn't be too hard to make one up yourself. Mock it up with cardboard and masking tape, measure and trim until you get the right shape and fit, maybe leave a gap to allow for movement, then use the mockup as a template for fiberglass or sheet metal, whichever you're more comfortable working with.

Re: Cowl hood question

you will be making this yourself, there are no kits that would work, besides, every cowl hood brand is made differently.

this is what i had made by a friend for ym car

Re: Cowl hood question

New idea. my uncle and i are going to turn my hood into a ram air hood. cut a hole of some sort up at the front possibly a chey emblem. then use some sheet metal to seal the air cleaner.

Re: Cowl hood question

Any plans on driving in the rain? That's why cowl hoods are more popular on street cars.

I run a scoop because it's a track only vehicle. It grabs a lot of air and at about 100 mph, I can see the back of the hood lifting up.

Im sure there are ways to help keep rain out or minimize it.

Re: Cowl hood question

Work on that before deciding on a front mounted opening. Installing a baffle system to reduce or eliminate water from entering will probably also reduce or eliminate the ram air effect. Pulling air from the base of the windshield is just as effective without the hassle.
