Need to replace this brace
Pulled up the carpet in my 87 and found I need to replace the brace in the pic. My front seat bolts up to this brace. my question is, has anyone had to replace this part../ if so, how did you remove it. I have a donor car with a perfect brace (if thats what this part is called).. I have a mig welder to weld the new peice back in, but whats the best wa to remove it..? any advise is greatly appreciated... Stone

Been a long time since I've seen mine under the carpet, but drill out the spot welds and weld it into your chassis, if it's not spot welded then cut it out and plug weld it into your chassis as well as weld around the outside of it.

Re: Need to replace this brace
I've got my interior apart now, and that piece is definitely spot welded in.
Being ****, & wanting a true 2-seater coupe, I've just finished cutting out
all the spot welded back seat mounting bracketry. Even with a special
weld cutting bit, I had about a 50% success rate of NOT perforating the
chassis panel. So the only alternative I can offer is to use a grinder to
cut out large chunks, and then grind down smooth the welded spots.
The donor part can be drilled out, since holes in the bracket aren't as
critical as holes in the floor pan. You could even use some of the bracket
holes as good spots to weld back to the floor pan. (Highly unlikely, that
the spot welds will be in the EXACT same locations.)
Good luck, and keep us posted.
PS.
Looking at the pic again, I'm not sure what's the issue that the brace needs replaced?
All I can see is some preliminary rust spots on the floor pan, which can be dealt with
considerably easier that replacing the seat mount bracket.
