Re: Ultimate trailer hitches

I have a trailer similar to what you can get at Harbor Freight. Have been looking at making it into a DIY "tear-drop" camper. Lots of good plans just from Googling.
Curt's hitch should be more than I'll ever need, but I'd want this if the price was similar. This should actually add structure to the car, IMO.

Not going to lie, that is a stupid idea with the gooseneck. I know its your car but you might as well give it to a dirt track guy and let him F-it up.

But hell yea I want to see pics, i really want to see some of your hitch that didnt cut up the rear bumper.
i think he can do the goose-neck but he should make his own notch back , thats one part there arnt many of around and even if he does it right its still butchering the notchback , unless he has it resesed and rais it up for towing then it would only look like a notch back when its not towing , make sure you have clearance for the trailer to swing

Re: Ultimate trailer hitches

i would think most any real load on one of these cars would twist it up. the only structural part of the body is made up of ~1/16" steel. its basically nothing.
the max weight you can put on a f150 gooseneck pin is around 1500lbs, i believe. and that should be located a few inches foward of the rear axle centerline.
not sure how much weight you would be able to sit on a camaro in that location, but i would figure something like 600lbs would have it close to the bumpstops. your average gooseneck trailer would probably put 300lbs on there by itself.

its just not enough car. i pulled my racecar with a '99 2500 for a few years and i ran into some scary situations on more than one occasion where i didnt know if i was going to get stopped. thats a 3,000lb car on a ~1500lb car trailer. my truck was about 5800lbs, this car is more like 3500-3800lbs. even if you locked down all 4 wheels, a 4,000lb trailer would be fine pushing the car wherever it wanted. another thing is never trust electric brakes on the trailer. they are temperamental and unreliable. when cold they might not work at all on some trailers. this is an interesting build, but i think it will look like a pile of junk when complete, and still not be able to haul very much. something people would take pictures of and post on the net. lol
i would like to see it though. lmao

Re: Ultimate trailer hitches

This idea reminds me of the Corvair. A radical new idea that will undoubtedly be 'Unsafe at any Speed'
