Idea for Center Console

Hey there, I was doodling around and I came up with a custom center console design. Now, I would try this myself, but I'm a broke a** college student (lol), with ZERO skills for fabrication.

Tell me what you guys and gals think about the design

Re: Idea for Center Console

Sure, you can make a new center console and you can build it however you want. Over the summer I spent a considerable amount of hours trying to build one from scratch with a wood frame like so many trucks do. I learned that any center console you create (for these cars) will have to use the exact same external dimensions, meaning the sides, bottom, back and the back of the frontside will have to be exact copies of the original other wise it will not bolt in or fit in. The only way to make one and make it strong enough to stay together would be spot welding an aluminum frame and sides and upholstering it. Wood splinters and is too heavy and fiberglass would crack. If you want something different you would be best off switching to a fourth gen piece or to modify the top of the center console as I did.

Oi! Thanks for the input Tibo, that's a pretty sweet fab! I wasn't thinking about building from scratch, more along the lines of modifying preexisting console.
Thanks I'll keep that in mind when I get some more fab experience (and cash lol) XD

Good drawing. I like it. I can see modifying a third gen piece to be more like your drawing. Pick up a shabby core at a swap-meet, and give it a whirl.

Looks very similar to a fourth gen console.
