Serpentine belt brack modification
I've looked everywhere for the answer to this question. Im switching over to a serpentine belt system on my 84 Z. I have a junk yard pick....it's the one thet looks like the GMPP kit. I won't be using the smog pump. My question is whether or not I can just cut off the part of the bracket the air pump was attached to. It is stupid looking without something mounted there, and it seems superfluous. That part of the bracket isn't present on my 96 truck....can I just use the passenger side bracket like the one on the truck? If it won't compromise the bracket I have, I'd rather just cut this baggage off. What say y'all?

Re: Serpentine belt brack modification
No one knows anything about using different Years and vehicle brackets?
Will the Sanden compressor fit under the hood on the drivers side? Is it set
back to much for a carb car? Can you use the A/C hoses from an installaion
that has the A/C compressor on Dr. Side? The truck passenger side bracket
looks right, the air pump version of that side without the smog pump in place looks like you forgot to put something in, and gets in the way of the mech. fuel pump if you're using one.
Surely someone has some experience with this?

Re: Serpentine belt brack modification
I have a little experience on this. I already had a serpentine setup out of a '90 GTA, but the 5.7 vortec I put in the car was complete with all the accessories.
I was going to just drop the motor in the car and just change out the intake, but liked the look of the '88+ system better and the vortec setup got in the way of my tpi setup.
You can use any setup you like, but you have to take into consideration hood clearance and accessory placement. Where your ac mounts doesn't matter you would just have to find hoses that fit or have some made. The ac mounted on the driver's side until '87 and the hoses ran across the top of the radiator shroud. In '88 they moved it to the passenger side and the system was serpentine from then on.

I'm in the middle of reinstalling the serpentine setup back in my 88 and I ended up pulling the bracket of a 92 blazer and installed it on place of the one that came with my car.

Re: Serpentine belt brack modification
I have a 96 1500. I haven't attempted to install them on my carbureted Vortec yet, and I won't cripple my truck to just try, but I've checked them out quite a bit. Honestly, they sure look like they would not take up any more space than my old school brackets from my E4me Quadrajet did. The Sanden Comprssor is smaller in diameter than the R4, only an inch or so longer. jharrison5 has pictures of the setup in his car....that is what I have now. I Just think that the Aluminum brackets are more sanitary looking, and don't look like they well go out of adjustment......ever.
