Fuel cell seal

Anyone ever see a sending unit seal like this? Looks so problematic to me. One of my customers brought me this cell for his Monte Carlo and I can't believe the way I'm supposed to do this.

Re: Fuel cell seal

Does it seal?

Steel hold down tabs would have been stronger than the aluminum ones and will take a lot more to bend.

Re: Fuel cell seal

It came with the aluminum tabs. It squeezed down pretty hard but theirs no groove for the o ring which really seems half assed. I'm not sure if it will leak when it's full and I won't top it off cause this guy breaks me down on price every time I work on one of his rides to the point I have to throw him a high price just to get close to what I need. Think it will seal but I'm worried about longevity.

I'd worry a lot about safety. If that pump moves any, you'll have a nasty leak.

Theirs no pump inside just a gauge sender. I would never recommend that style tank to someone but he said he couldn't send it back he bought it 5 years ago.

I would have a groove cut into tank and fab some steel or billed clamps. Remember if you send the car out with the tank installed your telling the customer it is safe to drive. You would be responsible for any accident caused by the tank. You have the right to refuse the job for safety reasons.

Re: Fuel cell seal

you could add a top ring..to the 3 tabs...making one unit..

as its snugged down it should apply more down force on the 0 ring..

or go all out..have a mech shop cut a billet plate with the O ring cut into it.. then weld it to the tank top...and do the one piece hold down...
