I have a1984 berlinetta with a gm 350 ho with l69 air cleaner. I would like a 3 point strut tower brace but would have clearance issues with the dual snorkel set up.Has anybody ever welded l69 setup to the lg4 air assembly? If so would there be a considerable air volume loss? To add I have no ac.

 

Because it's thin metal, I would stick to riveting, which I could swear was a common method used by GM.

Or fabbing a STB to fit.

 

I would'nt bother.The L69 air cleaner base is basically the same as the LG4.Main difference is/are the snorkel/s.The passenger side is where is had a clearance issue w/my edelbrock STB, but i got it to work by putting the tubular brace on top of the STB.I think it just contacted the hood though.My old set up.

 

I'm with you. But, after researching this issue, I want the 3 point STB more than the dual snorkel air cleaner. There is less under clearance with Firebirds, TAs, and Formulas than Camaros. So since I will be installing a RamAir hood anyways, I will just use a 14" open element air cleaner and keep things simple. Firebirds also have no front grilles, so allowing the hot underhood air out is also more of a priority than the dual snorker air cleaner for me.
