Re: My Cold Air Intake Rework

What's your altitude? My weather app is showing 102+ kpa and my local race track is at 2700' .

EDIT: I stand corrected . There's a compensation factor for altitude that is indicated. 102 kpa translates to about 94 kpa at 700 metres.

I'm at a real 2100 altitude. I'm thinking what it's actually reading is correct for this area.

I will ask my tuner. Hell I don't know!

Re: My Cold Air Intake Rework

Comparing your local weather to mine, you're showing 102 kpa like here (northern Alberta). And when corrected for altitude it works out to about the 94 kpa you see in your gauge.
So your guess is correct.

Re: My Cold Air Intake Rework

Thats a mistake i make often, assuming ppl are closer to sealevel like me. 1100 ft here, can get to east coast tracks that are like less than 100 ft and in the winter race days, has density altitude of -1000 ft lol literally boost weather

my key on kpa is closer to 99-100 depending on baro that day. Im seeing 93-94 kpa all motor on mine. 182 kpa with the snails at the moment

Ah, my home track, Capital Raceway, 118.1ft. On a REALLY GOOD september-november Friday TnT you'll get truly mineshaft conditions. I've seen DA's in excess of -1300' a few times.

Re: My Cold Air Intake Rework

On the flip-side, racing with a DA in excess of 4000' makes a fella feel really slow. Once I had a new "home track" up in the high prairies, I correct my results to sea level. First time out here I thought the engine was broken. Corrected results showed the performance was still on par. I miss mine shaft air.

Re: My Cold Air Intake Rework

So I finally got to drive the Camaro with the new "ram air".. Key on and in this part of the country I show 91 kPa.. Went and drove it with the computer hooked up. Put my foot in it and it shows 90 kPa. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

I got the 2 row, 1" wide radiator in. Had to do some trimming, but fits perfectly.

Hello Chad ... I'm glad to see I'm not the only one trying to do this...lol.... I just finished building something similar myself. I'm having problems with the hood hitting mine without doing some cutting on the radiator support to sink it down a little. I don't want to do that so I'm trying to come up with a different plan. I have a 6.0 LS Swap and its starving for air with the built heads and cam. This gives me hope that I'm going in the right direction. I'm thinking my angle is the problem. I might need to re-do that portion.

It's because a 3rd Gen shouldn't have a LS! j/k.. Do what you have to do but don't cut the support..

I defiantly wont be doing any cutting on the car itself. Minus the LS Swap the car is all original and very clean. It took me a while to decide to go with the LS but you just cant beat them for power when upgrading. Thanks for your comment

Re: My Cold Air Intake Rework

So, what height and type of spacer did you use to raise the top cover of the air intake? I'd like to do the same over the winter this year.

Re: My Cold Air Intake Rework

man..glad I logged in today. this is extremely relevant to my plans.
I have a carbed 86. 387 hp at the crank. I'm currently running a 14" round filter.
I have the complete tpi intake assembly. I was exchanging e-mails with the folks at Ram Air Box about their product
I am planning on using their 14" round air breather with a filter and replacing the filters in the tpi set up with mesh to keep critters out.
This is the filter housing I'm lookng at.

This was the reply I got from Ram Air.
You may be able to make our 14x3S ( with 6” inlet) work but I must advise you about the factory TPI air cleaner system. It all funnel via a very restrictive 3” size tube. I recommend against using such as it severely limits air flow capacity ( around 350 cfm ) and it is one of the reasons the TPI system is so restricted in airflow .

Thanks
I'm not looking for a ram air set up..just a cold air one.
My question is..would it be worth my time to raise the top of the airbox like you did or would the factory one supply enough air for me?
My car is a street car..I don't race it.

Re: My Cold Air Intake Rework

Getting some miles on this now. I say it's working! I'm at 5000 DA, it was a 92º day last Saturday. Notice the kPa and what it achieved. Notice what it did to my VE table.
