GM designated the camaro/firebird chassis the code F
such as they gave the corvette Chassis code Y

Not the chassis, the car line.

A second generation X body is identical to a first generation F body under the skin, but they have different car line identifiers.

This is probably also why it's called an "F car" or "F body" instead of an "F chassis".

If you look, you'll find the "Body by Fisher" logo on pretty much every GM passenger car built up to 1984.

The Fisher Brothers were coachbuilders, back in the day when the body was built entirely separately from the chassis. They were bought out by GM sometime in the interwar years, became the Fisher Body Division. In 1984 the division was closed down as a separate entity.

They closed down the division as a separate corporate entity in 1984, it doesn't mean they stopped using the name and carriage logo.

i think the corvette is a cbody. thus c-5. c5 being the 5th generation of corvette. am i way off base? i always thought we should start calling our cars f3s. as in "i love my f3"
