1983 Firebird w/ recent body and repaint and 85-90 TA body, !!!SOLD!!!

1983 Firebird converted to 85-90 trans am clone, perfectly straight body w/ new white paint, color sanded and buffed, $1900, located in southern Maryland.

The engine is a rebuilt 1987 model year roller 305 w/ 1,000 miles since rebuild. The 305 is a TPI roller long block topped with LG4 carb to appear correct for the 1983 model year car. I wired the engine correctly for a 1983 LG4 setup and pinned out the LG4 ECU accordingly. ALL emissions equipment has been added correct for a 1983 Lg4 car. All emissions equipment functions - AIR, new 3" cat, egr, evap, thermac, etc. This car will legitimately pass even the most stringent visual emissions check and it will pass a sniffer. Car starts first try, CCC Qjet is rebuilt by me and the mix control solenoid and choke are recently calibrated. The car runs seamlessly and feels like it has EFI. No quadrajet bog or hiccups. Check engine light functions properly and the car does not throw any codes or bring the light on.

I skim coated the doors and long boarded them perfectly flat when I did the body on this car. The paint is single stage white and was color sanded and buffed. It is not perfect, has some chips around the edges from reassembly, but it looks excellent. This is not your typical used and abused dented up third gen. It is as straight as they come.

The car drives and is tagged and insured. I would not hesitate to drive the car anywhere. I just had someone test drive it last weekend and she said she couldn't believe it was carbed from driving it, that it ran so smooth. She went WOT a lot of the time and was not easy on it either.

The trans is a 700R4 with a B&M shift kit. It hits 1-2 hard enough to leave rubber at WOT, but the trans shifts positively but smoothly at lighter throttle.

I re ringed the engine about 1,000 miles ago. It's a 1987 305 TPI long block with stock heads and cam. It runs smooth, does not smoke, and does not consume any oil with 10W30 in it.

The car has the larger 350TPI manifolds w/ AIR and a single 3" mandrel bent mid pipe, with a Hooker 3" in, dual 2.5" out aero chamber transverse muffler. The tail pipes and muffler are fully welded by me and have only seen about 50 miles of street use since I recently installed them.

All 4 tires are newer and have more than 80% tread remaining. Front and rear match side to side. 225/60/15 front 235/60/15 rear. New rear drums, shoes and wheel cyls. Front brakes are older but the pads and rotors are thicker than the wear limit and don't pulse. I have new timken wheel bearings and seals, and new Duralast front rotors and pads that I will throw in at my discretion depending on offer price.

I have not finished installing the new weather stripping, so you can see the exterior door molding is off the car currently. I have all new 7 pc weatherstripping included w/ the car. I will try to get it installed this week.

The interior is in fair to good condition. Seats are covered w/ matching seat covers. Headliner is recently re covered and looks great. Carpet is a little dirty but useable. Dash has a few minor cracks. Tops of rear seat backs have rips from where they hit when folding them down. Stereo is a newer JVC CD player and rear 6x9's are 3 way coaxial pioneer. Sounds great.

The interior door panel is off in the pic because I was reinstalling the ground effects panels last weekend. They had been off the car since paint, and wrapped up in storage. The mirrors were also painted off the car and are painted and wrapped, and have yet to be installed.

I have a ton of labor hours into this car. I did body and paint myself and all mechanical work was done by me as well. I need to get $1900 for the car or I will just put it back in the garage, I have 4 cars worth of garage space and have no problem parking it if I can't sell it. I'd rather see someone drive it because I have another project 81 Camaro that is taking more time and money than anticipated, and I have other cars that get driven while the 83 just sits around. You can not find a third gen at this price that has recent paint that looks great and has laser straight body.

$1900 cash. Trades considered. I would trade this car straight up for a 1988 or older long bed 4wd Chevy/Ford/Dodge pickup that runs good. Car is located in Southern MD.

Email me at bondospecial@aol.com for fastest response. Serious inquiries only please. I do not check my PM's here as often as email so email at the above address is preferred. The car can be inspected and test driven on weekends.

Thanks

Steve

Re: 1983 Firebird w/ recent body and repaint and 85-90 TA body, laser straight body,

Ok UPDATE, I am no longer interested in trading for a truck, I bought a truck outright a few weeks ago. I am still trying to sell the Firebird for cash. Thanks for the compliment, you won't find another car for the money that has ZERO dents in the body. It just needs minor finishing work including bolting the side mirrors back on and installing the window weather stripping channels and the weatherstripping (all included).

Still for sale for $1700

Here are interior and underhood pics. The interior is extremely dusty and I should have wiped it down before I took a pic but I didn't, but you get the idea. The interior is in fair to good condition and is certainly useable like it is. The seats are covered up front due to typical driver's seat rips.

ENGINE: The engine bay does not look like anything special but I can assure you I hand built the 305 roller engine 2 years ago and have put less than 1,000 miles on it since then. I have pictures of the engine being assembled if I can find them, which will have time and date stamps on them.

This is an unusually nice-for-the-price 3rd gen that really shows the pride I took in building it. I think I enjoy building engines more than I like driving what I put together, so now that this car is just about done I am on to other projects.

Please email me at bondospecial@aol.com, I didn't see this post was still alive until today as I am not good about checking on posts.

Re: 1983 Firebird w/ recent body and repaint and 85-90 TA body, laser straight body,

HUGE PRICE DROP

Ok it really would be nice to clear one of my cars out of the garages, so I have decided to aggressively try to sell both my 81 camaro and this 83 Firebird at the same time, and keep whichever car doesn't sell. That will decide for me which car to keep since I like both of them and can't make up my mind.

I understand that the market for these cars is extremely soft right now and that the economy is hitting people hard. I am also guessing that despite how nice the end result is of 85+ TA ground effects look on the 83, that a lot of people who like the 85+ trans am body style would automatically want a real 85+ trans am, since soooo many of these cars were made that it isn't hard to find a real 85+ TA. An 83 Firebird doesn't look like much from the factory, and I definitely did the car a favor by modernizing it to the popular 85+ TA appearance.

Someone has got to be able to enjoy this strong running, extremely straight, shiny, completely dent free car.

Somebody want to give me $1200 for this car? It is a damn shame to sell it for this price (people are still asking a ton more for much less complete cars with terrible paint and dented up bodies) but it looks like with the current market I am going to have to price this car really really low to be able to sell it. You could find a real 85+ trans am with a 150,000 mile engine, dead paint, and dents for more than this car. Or you can buy this car with a really good body and shiny paint, and a rebuilt engine. It seems like a no brainer but I am pricing this car to hopefully catch someone's attention.
