Posting this for a friend, but he is looking for a decent third gen bird. He is basically looking for a good running V8 (He says no Carb) with TPI or TBI. Body can be a bit neglated and that is expected with the budget.

He is gonna make this his daily driver right away so no projects. Clean tittle please. So in the end, DD capable with a workable body.

he is located in Chicago, IL (60632) but he might be willing to drive to check out some good deals. His budget is currently under $2000 i presume.

Tell your buddy that it is going to be damn hard to find a car that is DD capable for that budget with an OK body. Figure that these cars are 20 some odd years old and that there is a big chance that nowadays someone would have modified the car in some way, rebuilt the engine and or the transmission, put some hard work and some cash into their cars. There is a guy on chicago craigslist by the name of robert that parts these cars, just search Camaro or Firebird or maybe even Trans Am and he should come up.

I like it how I get told that my car is only worth a few hundred bucks when the list of work in my car is now totaling close to 10K! You get alot of people that really don't know that these cars are actually worth a hell of alot more than they think. What does a low mileage bone stock firebird go for? I'd say maybe around $12,000 or so. Higher mileage, bone stock, maybe $5000, and if it has a crap ton of mods, ie rebuilt engine which is very rarely a stock rebuilt, bolt ons, suspension work, body work, upgraded transmission, rear gear changes, etc, the car could be worth north of $20,000.

There have been alot of ads recently saying more or less "Looking for a good condition car with very little work but max budget is $2,000", yeah, good luck with that.

I searched a measly 10 minutes and found a red formula for sale with 88,XXX miles and a 5 speed for $6900. Car is in good shape, looks to be all stock, and could probably be used as a daily driver. Don't think they will come down to $2000 though.

O I have been preaching this to him for the past few days. To top it all off, he is one picky sob. It has to be a certain color, it cant be a 91-92. It has to be a 89. No Carb or TBI has to be TPI. I totally almost have given up and I have told him if thats how pickie his gonna be, to just wait and save up 2500-3000 since the bird he wants is gonna be in that price range and with his current job, its gonna be a while.

I have told him for his budget, if it runs great, and has good floors that arent too rusted out. Buy it. Theres a bird a block away that a neighbor is selling and last time I heard he wants around $500 for it. He doesnt want it for some reason and I know its due to it being in primer and being in rough shape and being a 83-84. Hell the bird I bought was in ok shape body wise but was not DD'able and thus why my father gave it to me and went and bought another car, and that bird cost us 1750.

He can have mine for $5000, but he has to arrange for pickup. Mine is just 1 year off of the requirements though.
It is currently my daily driver.
It has some miles on it though, almost 200K.

He will probably say no because of the year difference and miles and because its manual and because its modded.

Im dead serious with you guys, he expects to find a 2500-3k condition vehicle for $1000-1500.

Anyways I am gonna tell the mods to close the thread, I don't think he will be in a bird anytime soon.

I have an 85 305TPI I'd want to sell for 4K. A lot out of his league.

I'd be willing to drive it halfway to Chicago from PA. Maybe the Cleveland area.

Not sure how title change will work though. In PA both parties must be present. He'd probably have to come to Pittsburgh.

Mine is bone stock with 69000 formula 89 TBI for 2000 OBO only problem is the Location..... MIAMI.

i will sell him mine for 1800 its a red 90 firebird 305 tbi 139,xxx mi. got some rust but most of it is surface. get two sets of tires with it. i daily drive for a whole year so far about 40 miles a day. oh and i am in chicago. pm me or call my cell 224 659 9670

Pming you and requesting pictures, hes still interested after talking to him but the price really has to be right. He does not mind if its V8 or V6, just not carb. Body can have the typical rust but nothing too serious. Interior can be anyway it can come since of the budget.

I hope this guy's a really good friend. Lots of specific requirements that keep changing.

When you find his DD firebird for under $2000, you better buy it on the spot the moment that it's listed.

He has already purchased the car he wanted. Its a 1989 Trans Am GTA. LB9 A4 with unknown 10 bolt drum rear. The car is perfect rust wise, makes me jealous compared to my 158k mile 92. Only problem is the body is in rough shape. Besides parts that can be replaced just the passenger rear quarter that needs some small work to get it straight.

As for the Drivetrain, The original LB9 was swapped out for some reason (Cars ODO read 111k and body confirms it somewhat) to a L05 5.7L bottom and they stuck on the original 305 TPI top on it, 700R4 is still in there with the original rear that I do not like. Its a regular 10 bolt Drum rear. Unknown gears for now.

He got the car for $2000, It had idle problems and has some cold start issues and sometimes starting problems in general. I told him to offer $1800 but he was fine with $2000. Still a good purchase for $2000, The body can be fixed and it has no rust problems anywhere a perfect platform for him.

It is a DDable car but he has no time to work on it, he has dropped it off at my house for me to work on it but I seriously do not feel like doing so. I feel like it would be better for him to just store it and he can do it himself for the rewarding feeling. Besides He doesn't pay. :P
