Found a 89 GTA Convertible for sale
If anyone is interested, looks like a good fixer-upper
http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invento...ting=119158210
What I notice from the pictures
1) The exhaust tips
2) The wheels are not the originals
3) THe seats are not the originals.
4) The top was originally Blue, it is now black...
Looks pretty clean, no under-hood shots. price is ok at $8995
It is on the list, #8 (in Vin sequence) for the known 143 GTA/Trans Am convertibles. It was originaly purchased by JM Pontiac, in Hollywood, FL,
Thought I would share

Nice! Love this 5.7 convertible! I had these wheels on an 87 Formula Okfoz could you tell me about them?

I really do not know anything about the wheels. All I know is they look kinda right, but they really are not. I have seen them before...

Me too. Back in 95. They were a lil different than my friends GTA wheels and never got a straight answer if they came on the car original.

Re: Found a 89 GTA Convertible for sale
Honestly, they do not look bad at all IMHO, they just look different. It would be like Donald Trump turning his hairpiece over to put his part on the other side... You would know there is something different, but until you stare at it for a while you might not figure out exactly what is not quite the same as before.
I do not believe they are OE parts, I contend that they are an aftermarket wheel of some sorts made to appear similar to the OE part. My guess would be they were made from the late 80's thru the mid 90's as an "upgrade" wheel that you get at places like Discount tire, or Belle tire when they tell you that your wheels are too badly corroded..

Firebird OEM centercaps fit on them. The car I had em on had already had the strange c&c T-tops, aftermarket ground effects,etc.. so no telling where they came from.

Re: Found a 89 GTA Convertible for sale
Those rims are Enkei Riken, also used on Saleen Mustangs and no they were never stock on GTAs. Nice thats its a 5.7 car but wrong rims, wrong seats, wrong exhaust, wrong color top... 9Gs is too much. It be a good buy at $4500 like it sits. Plus being a Florida car with sea salt air car they rot from inside out, Id check it out in person and see what else is incorrect before I paid any kind of money for it. For $9,000 that car should be almost perfect

Just from the pictures, and without digging into the car to see what is really wrong with it, $8000 would not be unfair, especially considering it is 1 of 143, it would be a pretty good price.

Re: Found a 89 GTA Convertible for sale
Even though lots of the parts are not original it does seem to be done up really nice even if its not OEM original. I would have to agree with okfoz and say this car if it is as nice as it looks is a 7-8k car all day.

Re: Found a 89 GTA Convertible for sale
Typically speaking I would consider that the price of an ASC convertible should be about 1.5x to 2x the price of a T-top car equally equipped. The car as a T-top car with those modifications, and about 100K should get about $5000-$7000 at least.
Historically the 89 convertibles sell for roughly the same as a similar 91-92

Re: Found a 89 GTA Convertible for sale
I believe that it has either 4th gen T/A seats in it, or at least 4th gen T/A headrests. If that is the case, the car would just need to have the correct headrests located and swapped out..

Re: Found a 89 GTA Convertible for sale
Did a little more digging on the car, found that actually I believe it originally had a Gray interior to go with the white exterior and the original blue top. The Black top does look better with a black interior has.
I do not believe it is possible to simply swap out a 3rd gen headrest on 4th gen seats. The posts are different that hold the headrests.

Re: Found a 89 GTA Convertible for sale
Just clicked on the link from the original posting, shows up on the cargurus website still with the price just dropped today to $6,495. Even with the 'mods', they aren't way off base and could easily be swapped back to factory if desired. Long ways from Iowa but at the new price, have to give it some thought...

Re: Found a 89 GTA Convertible for sale
Yes that is a good price. I have an Florida car and have no inside out rust issues. I paid the same(6500) for my ASC vert with 71,000. I thought I got a great deal on it. A few cosmetic mods but other than that it is all there. GTA's i think are worth more than Z28's so this would definitely be worth looking at if someone is looking for this car.

That is a really good price, the car looks nice enough, too bad it has the wrong wheels, wrong interior..
The Car was originally sold in FL, so it appears it has been there it's entire life.
