I have been talking to a friend of the owner, the car is either a 89 or a 90 IROC (I haven't seen it yet), It is Gray and has a 350 with 3.73s, thinks it has t-tops, but I don't really care. it has front end damage, needs new quarter panels, front bumper, and hood, but the frame/suspension is supposed to be fine, and the drive train is supposed to be great. he wants $1000 for it, I think I can have the money by june, what do you guys think? I think I could have it put together by august (lift off hood, and junk yard panels)

collosal rip off man, you can get a wrecked 4th gen for 2-3k, Dont waste your time.
everything is supposed to be great except the fenders and hood, I'll start a 500 and work up to 800

But he knows its a 350 with 3.73 gears? Well if its an 89 it'd be a 9 bolt, aka no 3.73's were ever available for it, 3.70's were but 3.70's arent 3.73's. If its a 90 it could have 3.73's but then again in 90 the only gears available would have gone up to at most 3.42's, and only then if the car was a 305 5spd.
Go look at the car, check the VIN and the RPO codes. You'll probably find out its an RS with a 305 TBI.

the friend told me it was moddifed, he was wrong. I just called the owner and it is: 160,000 miles on car, 100,000 on the motor, it has 3.23 posi, it is a hard top 88, needs one front fender and hood is slightly dended, I'll go look at it one of the next two weekends

88's didn't have the 10 bolt either... 3.23 is a ten bolt gear set. If it is a 88 with better gears it'll have 3.27's. Get the VIN and the RPO codes, everythign else is just second hand info. If it doesn't have the RPO codes its probably just another hacked up junkbox.
