Good price?

I'd like to buy a 1991-92 Firebird T/A or Camaro Z28 with the hardtop or T-tops. My main requirement for this car is extremely good mechanical and cosmetic condition and low miles (less than 50,000). What would be a good estimate of a price to pay for this type of car?

Thanks,

-Aaron

You're looking at between $7-15,000 depending on miles and condition.

There's two modes of thought to buying a new toy:

1) I want to buy the perfect car.
2) I want to buy a good deal.

Pick one first, then focus on that. If you're lucky, you'll get both in one shot.

I paid $7000 for an '89 IROC Convertible with 65k miles, loaded to the hilt, excellent condition, and well-taken care of.

It CAN happen.

Let patience be your best friend on this kind of seach. It took me a couple of years to find my GTA and it finally one day just appeared on AutoTrader.com by chance. It was even located in my state! Just make sure you are not "settling" or you will never be 100% happy with the car or yourself. Think of it as adopting a child......

I agree with what 92GTA has said about taking your time, but if you're too picky, you may pass up something you later wish you had bought.

Case in point is my Formula. I've had it 2 weeks (well, its paid for, but its still at work sitting there with no plates!), and the car has grown on me more and more every time I sit in it or drive it on my dealer plate. I always said I wanted nothing but an IROC. Well, if I stuck to that, I never would have bought the 4th gen that has become my complete obsession, and I also never would've bought the Formula. I always thought the IROC was king...but the Formula is unique in that it has the best suspension with the V6 body, and a GTA spoiler and domed hood. Interesting combo Everyone does IROCs and GTAs...not everyone goes after a Formula. I admit its not everyone's taste, but different can be a good change of pace!!

Also, while I don't blame you for wanting the 350, look at 305 cars too. They will surprise you...mine appears to have more than enough power for anything but a night at the track. And this was with a clogged air filter and 50k mile old plugs! A 305 TPI will probably surprise you.

I don't want to disuade you from getting what you want...but don't narrow your search too much. I own 2 cars I never thought I'd own...and I have just as much fun with them as I would've with the IROC I had always lusted after...
