Fibreglass Hood

Does anyone know why the General stopped making the fibreglass hoods for the camaro. What is the weight difference between the steel and fibreglass units? Will an 82 fibreglass hood fit later production 3rd gens?

The hood should fit all 3rd gen Camaros. The reason they stopped making the hood was because it would separate or delaminate at the hinges causing a weak mount. Many hoods actually flew off because the fiberglass wasn't fabricated strong enough and would crack at the mounting hardware. So I have been told!

They quit making them in 83. I have one on my 84 Z as a replacement steel hood in good condition could not be found. It seems quite OK once I get the fitment issues cleared up. My front valance isn't lining up with the hood(no fault of the hood). Although the hood does stick slightly up at the passenger rear corner, but there may be some adjustment there also. I like it although I am concerned about the strenght of it because of the gas charged shock strength. I think that trying to close it with those shocks may be overstressing it.
