Ran across an '84 Z28 at a local lot today. Base LG4, 90K mi. all original, clean car. Looked underneath to find a monolith screen type converter like what came on the L69 H.O. & TPI cars. I thought the LG4's received the flat pellet type converters. Anybody else seen this?

 

Dont think so. I think pellet converters died earlier. My 84 LG4 car had the screen type.

 

My buddy's 87 LG4 has the pellet style cat.

But it also has GU5 and a round shifter **** so it's already an odd ball car.

 

My old '86 LG4 Z28 had the pellet style too. Had to replace it because it started clogging up and hissing. Anybody else with or had on original LG4 and a monolith (screen) type converter?

 

I had an 85 Z28 w/the LG4--had the monolith convertor in it--I gutted it, and I was the 2nd owner.
BTW--it was all original when I got it.

 

The difference between the LG4 catalytic converter and the L69 catalytic converter was not what type of converter, but rather the size and bolt configuration of it. The L69 had the 4-bolt flange catalytic that was a 3" diameter oval design from the same year Corvette. The LG4 had a (IIRC) slip on 2-1/2" catalytic converter. Both of which were monolithic.
