Here is another angle of the interior of the car.

You can see the switch in this picture right above the brake pedal.

The car is a 1985 IROC-Z. I don't understand the fog lamp switch location.

From the best of my recollection, here's my take. I need confirmation on the following though.

From 1982 thru 1985, the spot below the headlamp switch was used for the rear wiper/washer (RPO C25). When fog lamps were introduced in 1985 on IROC-Z's, a dilemma arose because the fog lamp switch uses the same spot. Chevy's answer was to relocate the fog lamp switch to the lower instrument panel as shown above. I have seen one other 1985 IROC-Z with the fog lamp switch in the same location. What's perplexing to me is that the car in question does not have the rear wiper/washer (confirmed by the non-existence of RPO C25 on the SPID). Speculation: Maybe the C25 instrument panel wiring harness and lower instrument panel plate was mistakenly installed on this car. When it was realized that this option was not to be installed, it was too late to swap wiring harnesses/panels, so the assembly line worker simply installed the blank face plate (headlamp) and also installed the "relocated" fog lamp switch. My speculation can be easily confirmed by removing the headlamp face plate to see if a wiring connector is hidden in the lower pocket (where the fog lamp switch normally resides).

For history's sake, the rear wiper/washer switch was moved in 1986 to the center console and positioned perpendicularly to the power window and hatch release switches.

When I look at the sales brochure for 1985 Camaro, there in the brochure is three pictures of the automatic transmission stick area.

One is the full shot of the custom interior and shows the transmission selector numbers as P-R-N-D-3-2-1.

Now in the next to last page in the brochure it has a small picture of the automatic stick again.
This picture shows it as P-R-N-(D)-D-2-1

I even found where in the same brochure they show the dash area of the Berlinetta. It shows its stick selector as P-R-N-(D)-D-2-1.

The last two gear selectors are like my 1986 Z28.

I am looking at a 1985 IROC-Z and it selector is as P-R-N-D-2-1.

I am asking where is the other (D) or 3 on this IROC-Z.

It has the MD8 auto 4 spd. The other code is MXO Merchandised, trans, auto provisions, O/D

I'll be damned. I never thought of the wiper option.

As usual, willie never ceases to amaze me.

But anyway... that shift indicator is very odd. No way that should be there with the MD8.

Also in the above picture of the console when you have the center hatch open button between the power window buttons do you get the power pull down in the back for the rear hatch.

I opened up the rear with the key and naturally thought it would raise. Well, I thought it was busted and when I looked up there was no contacts for the pull down mechanism.

Is there a solenoid in the rear that the hatch button trips even when you don't have power pull down?

No. The power hatch pull-down started in 1986.

The shifter plate that's currently on the car is definitely not original. It was original in 1982 and 1983's not equipped with the 700R4 (it was an option). As for which should be original, the PRND321 or the PRN(O)D21, I'm not sure. In 1984, it was PRND321. In 1987, it was PRN(O)D21. I can only assume that because you're an original owner of a 1986, all 1986's should be like yours. Actually, I bought a 1986 Z28 new but can't recall.

Like Jim stated, 1986 was the first year for the hatch pull-down. All years previous used a solenoid to activate the hatch release. To be technically correct, the solenoid was also used for all cars equipped with the pull-down motor too.

I happen to have all Camaro dealership brochures from 1983 thru 1992. It seems that most (if not all) the Camaros pictured are pre-production cars. I say this because in almost every brochure, I have found discrepancies on several cars pictured. So I don't find it unusual to see different shift plates in the brochures for the same model year.

Here's a not well known fact about the 1985 fog lamps. Thanks to Jim85IROC who corrected me last year, this is the only year the fog lamps operate with the low beams only. All succeeding years, they operated with either the parking and/or low beams.

Heres a side shot of the car.

The picture makes it look better than it is.

They want $6,000.

The paint is faded really bad from front to back. The owner says silver is really rare and most had a problem with the paint coming or peeling off. There is a couple of small patches where this has happened on the rear deck by the spoiler.

The oil looks like it hasn't been changed forever.

$6,000

All 700R4's 84-87 should be PRN(D)D21. Never seen PRND321 I don't think, maybe it was on the 1st 700R4's. And I agree with you that showroom brochures have lots of incorrect stuff in them.

PRND321 is 700R4 1983 only.
