'84 15th Annv. Side Molding Question

What's up with the optional side molding on the middle of the doors on the '84 15th's???? In ALL of the pictures I've ever seen of these cars that have the molding, it appears to be solid like on my 92 GTA BUT on ALL of the 15th's I've seen in real life uncluding mine they look like this crappy type side molding:

See how it has that crappy chrome molding holder with the crappy molding slid inside the holder, what's up? It looks terrible! Was this a mid year change or something or are my eyes just see it correctly on all of the photos I've seen? What I'm hoping is that it is dealer installed and therefor not like the factory molding because even my '82 S/E had the good looking solid type molding. See how ugly it is:

Here is a comparison:

See how that molding looks solid? I already ordered an info packet from PHS to get my RPO codes since I'm missing my SPID sheet but I haven't gotten it yet

The modling on mine has to be aftermarket or dealer installed. I just want to make sure before I remove it...

Alex, I have seen your style molding on a few 15th's, I think it is a little too common to be aftermarket, probably dealer, ill look into it later. But I have seen it on other 15ths.

Thanks, I'd appreciate it. I'm almost positive it's dealer installed because like you said it's too common to be aftermarket and it IMO definantly is not stock when looking at the other style which is used on all 82-92 Firebirds....

Well Id guess that they are dealer added. THe first 15th I saw had the same moldings as yours. However i went digging through lots of pics and I could not find any pictures of a 15th with them from 84. So Id guess it was dealer added.

The 15ths pics I did find with molding on the doors was the later style (like on your 92). I did not know that these were used in 84, I thought they showed up around 87.

Well HTH

Well I do know they were used because I had the same style as my 92 on my 82.

The style I have must be dealer installed then, off it shall come
