Restoring my 1986..I'm in college

Here's what's wrong with my car:

1) No heater
2) Driver's side window motor misfunctioning
3) Back latch not properly attached
4) Cruise button doesn't work
5) Muffler is gone
6) Door key lock on outside is junked

I am in college, so things are going to be done cheap to fix my car.
As for the muffler, $20 I can buy one and put it on myself. The back latch can be fixed with some hardwar nuts, and some ingenuity. (may have to break down and buy the guide things)

My questions are about the window motor, and the cruise button and my door lock. I know I need to take off my stick (with cruise/blinker). I assume once I remove the steering wheel, I will be able to tell what to do next. As for the window motor, once I take off the door panel, (I know it'll be tight) could I just WD-40 the **** outta everything and hope for the best?

My door lock needs changed. I have a spare one in another Camaro. How can I exchange them? PLEASE HELP

If anyone can offer some help, please e-mail me at jozimmer@bigred.unl.edu

Thanks a ton.
Joshua

To really get to the guts of the steering column, you will need to rent or buy a "lock plate remover". There is a metal plate behind the steering column that needs to be pressed in and the retainer clip removed. After that, you're golden.

For the window motor, I would save up and get a rebuilt one from the auto parts store. Many of the chains give a warranty with them and WD40 won't help if the gears are stripped.

Door locks are a simple remove and replace deal. However, locksmiths can generally repair and/or rekey the locks for about $15/cylinder.

Good Luck!
