Does anybody know how to track down a previously owned car? I would like to find my old 83 Z28, since I have not found another like it for sale.

It's just a matter of knowing the state and license plate number, then you pay your local DMV like $20 and they give you the name and contact info on the owner. This is how it works in CA anyway.....

You should have your VIN too. In some states, the license plate stays with the owner, not the car. Also, the laws on giving out this information varies widely by state. In some states, like Arizona, this information is not given out -- at least it wasn't ten years ago. In others, like Texas, all it takes is a phone call to DMV and they will give you the information over the phone at no charge.

Try carfax.com. You just need the VIN & $16.

Thanks. I just found the VIN, so I'll try contacting the DMV Monday. The tag stays with the owner in GA. I have heard that GA doesn't give out this information, but we'll see.
