Question regarding special 1991 RS Option

Guys
My neighbor just bought a 91 RS with an 8 cylinder engine...but instead of a 305 ...he is claiming it is a "rare" 350??? Was their a special option for that year to get a 5.7 liter engine in an RS back in 91? If so, is it TPI or TBI or Carb...and what are the specifications--hp/torque. I am only familiar with Z-28 options...and need some educating on the RS models. I have always heard that the RS V8 was a 305. Am I wrong?

THanks in advance for the clearification.

Thirdgen 350 only came in TPI flavor, and I'm almost 100% positive it never came on any RS. only IROC and Z/28 had it, and then only optional. RS with 350 would be a swapped out engine. I'm sure I'll be hearing about it if I'm wrong

If you want to be sure, check the VIN number. The 8th digit from the left must be an "8" if it is a 350. Chances are you'll find an "E" instead, meaning it rolled out of the factory with a 305 TBI. There's no telling what was done to it after that.

There are some 91-92 RS's with 350 from the factory. It's called the B4C Special Service Package. It was used by gov't officials, i.e, police departments, FBI, etc. They do exist, but the 8th digit of the VIN needs to be an 8 to be correct. Their specs are the same as the 91-92 Z specs for performance.

Most of the time when someone is ranting and raving about how rare their thirdgen is, they're full of bovine excriment.

Check the vin. Don't bother trying to change his mind, its a waste of time.
