'86 IROC Should I Buy?

I've found a '86 IROC complete minus the tranny. Body is in good shape, 350 needs a rebuild. Interior is all there but worn. He says it has 3.73 Gears. No visible rust and no dents. He wants $800, I think I can talk him down. I'm new to thirgens, is this a good deal. Not looking for a total resto project, just want to make a cool 11-12 second car. thanks.

an 86 Iroc with a 350? Is it an original 350? If it is, and the VIN can prove it. I'd jump on it like crazy. Only 74 350's produced in 86. Even if it's not originally a 350 IROC, for $800 I'd jump on it anyway I guess. I'd put my money on it being originally a 305 car, or maybe it still is.

Where in the world did those numbers come from. It has only been "rumored" that 50 1986 350's were produced. It's only rumored because none has ever been confirmed to exist. There is no accurate information that states 50 cars existed with the 350 in 86, only rumors. As for the 3.73, they also were not available in the IROC in 86.

geez scott, calm down Just a simple mistake. I meant 50 instead of 74. I got the info from this site in the tech data. I saw the 74 first and got it im my head. I don't have any means of comformation as to my reply, I just go by data that I hold dear when it comes to TGO.

I am calm! I was merely asking where those numbers came from. Reread my reply and you'll see that I'm forwarding information after I ask the question. Nothing else!
