Just curious, I'm not trying to bash here, but what does any of that have to do with a restoration? Restoration is when you restore, literally, the car to how it was in the past when it was new, or as close to new as you possibly can. Swapping something for a bigger / better / different part is the opposite of restoration, not to mention with a major thing like the engine.
Contrary to popular belief, a V8 does NOT weigh a lot more than a V6, after you factor in all the installed accessories / bolt-ons. The difference is negligible, maybe 100 pounds at most. That's like half a passenger!
On the other hand, I don't know the answer to your question but you're better off leaving this one as is, and find a solid, rust-free car to swap a V8 into.
So it's up to you. Just don't claim you're restoring it though. That's a slap in the face of unrestorable cars like my 82 (and my 84 to a lesser extent)
Good luck, GT
