1989 Iroc convertible

Thinking about buying a 1989 Iroc convertible project car but I don't know much about Iroc's. I was told that it originally had a 350 TPI/700r4 drivetrain in it. Is this possible? I thought they only came 305 TPI. On the driver's door there is a sticker that says ASC. Is there a difference between ASC Iroc converts. and GM factory converts or are they one in the same? Anyone know how many 1989 Iroc converts. were made? The guy is only asking $700.00, so I will probably pick it up anyway. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

....1989 Iroc convertible project car.... I was told that it originally had a 350 TPI/700r4 drivetrain in it. Is this possible?

No. 1989 IROC-Z engine/transmission availability:

Engines:
Base: 305 TBI (RPO L03)
Optional: 305 TPI (RPO LB9)
Optional: 350 TPI (RPO B2L/L98) See Notes 1 & 2 below.

Transmissions:
Base: 5-speed manual (RPO MM5)
Optional: 4-speed auto with OD (RPO MX0)

Note 1: The 5-speed manual was not available with the 350.
Note 2: The 350 was not an option on the convertible.

I thought they only came 305 TPI.

This is a misconception. The 305 TPI became the base engine in the IROC-Z in 1990. The 305 TBI was the base engine in 1988 and 1989.

On the driver's door there is a sticker that says ASC. Is there a difference between ASC Iroc converts. and GM factory converts or are they one in the same?

They are one and the same. ASC was GM's sub-contractor for "factory" convertibles.

Anyone know how many 1989 Iroc converts. were made?

1989 Camaro Production Figures:

RS Coupe: 83,487
RS Conv: 3,245
IROC-Z Coupe: 20,067
IROC-Z Conv: 3,940

The guy is only asking $700.00, so I will probably pick it up anyway.

Sounds like an excellent deal, but as always, it's dependent on condition. I think I'd still pick it up anyways, unless it's a rust bucket.

Slam dunk by Willie. For $700, it sounds like a great deal.

Thanks guys for all your help.

The car is solid with no rust, but it's a wiring nightmare. There is no motor/ trans and there are cut looms all over (interior and exterior).

I'm picking it up next week, wish me luck.

Thanks again
