I remember reading somewhere that GM motors used to be light blue but changed to black. Could someone please inform me of the year of the change. The motor in my 87 LG4 T/A is light blue......Now I find out that it's a 350 (L48 ??) I new something didn't look right....but for 400 bucks and the car runs.......didn't think I could go wrong !!! Any Ideas ??? Thanks! Fakeyankee.

 

Not sure when they started painting them black, but it was probably in the 70's. An 87 is most certainly supposed to be black, my 84, 85, 86, and 89 all have/had black blocks.

 

82 was blue, 83 was black.
