my car has an electric feul pump on it and it is an 83 z28 camaro was my car suposed to have an engine driven feul pump on it or an electric one i can tell the feul pump was put on the car and isnt the ariganal one but i was wonderign if it alwase had an elecric one or not.

If it is an 83 carburated V8 it should be mechanical.

Yea, there was a some kind of "recall" for '83 and '84 L69s to put an additional electric pump in the gas tank to supplement the mechanical one on the engine. My understanding is that this was to address some sort of vapor lock problem that the early L69s had. It seemed that the problem varied from car to car. Some cars were bad and other not very.

I think also having both fuel pumps helped the engine start better after the car sat.
