Engine Block Numbers

I was told that my 82 camaro had an engine swap before i bought it and was upgraded to the 88 5.7L 350, with a carb

now my question is where would i find the block id number to confirm this

reason i ask is because i just recently replaced my water pump, the pump works fine, but it didn;t seem to have all of the bolt up holes for my alternator brace and my steering pump brace. they are attached, just not as securely as before. did i get the wrong water pump? did they stop making it with bolt ups? did the previous owner use a wierd setup and change how things were bolted up?

so where can i find my block id tag?
