rearend code??????

rearend code??????
Can anyone tell me something about this number on my rearend? The vin under the windshield says it came with a 2.73. I am wanting to know if this is the factory gear from the car. Thanks for any help

That is the casting number of the center section. All it tells you is that it's a 7½" 10-bolt.
Don't bother with codes. Even if you post the right one, all that it will tell you is what gears the factory put in the housing the tag came off of, not what's in there now. Take off the cover and look. If you need a good excuse, have you changed the fluid lately? Then you need to take the cover off anyway. While you're catching up on overdue maintenance, make a point of reading the stamping on the edge of the ring gear.
