Yellow Iroc Convertible..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2433741911

First off, let me say it is not my car (if it was it would not be for sale) nor do I know the owner...

This is the first Factory Iroc Convertible that I have ever seen. Looks like a nice car. Any idea on the dash emblem?? I have never seen one of those..

Re: Yellow Iroc Convertible..

It is NOT a factory IROC-Z convertible. My tipoff is the fact that zero yellow Camaro convertibles were produced. That being said, a yellow convertible is either:

1) Not the original color, or
2) Originally a coupe and converted.

To determine which, examine the VIN. On this car, the sixth digit is a "2". This means this car was originally a coupe (left the factory as such). For it to be a factory convertible, the sixth digit must be a "3". Also, this car has a 305 TPI and automatic. All 1987 Z28 convertibles had only two drivetrain choices:

1) 305 carb (LG4) with automatic, and
2) 305 TPI (LB9) with 5-speed.

Looks like a nice car.

I agree. And low mileage too. But not an original convertible.

Yes. In 1987 (only) ASC converted coupes for GM and individual owners. All GM converted Camaros got two things:

1) Sixth digit in VIN = 3, and
2) A "20th Anniversary Commemorative Edition" map pocket (as shown on my car below).

Individually owned conversions received the sequentially numbered plaque and NO anniversary edition designation.

In terms of having a nice car, this is a nice, low mileage Camaro. But keep in mind that because it is a customer-owned conversion, it is really not worth any more than any other coupe that has been converted. In terms of collectibility, a Camaro MUST have a "3" in the VIN to verify it is a factory conversion. This is true even though the same company (ASC) performed the conversion for both GM and individuals.

The owner clearly specifies he does not know much about this and I commend him for doing this. I will e-mail him with a link to this thread.
