You can go and read an online version here:

This car is one of 4 built with 1LE.

I recall they made 2 x 350 and 2 x 305 cars. One of the 350 cars was up for sale on eBay some time ago. I have a copy of the build sheet if anyone is interested.

Rumour has it that GM produced these 4 cars late in the production year only so as to be able to say the 1LE options were "production". The heavy duty front brakes first appeared off the assembly line in March 1988 on the Player's challenge cars. A little know triva. The 4 1LE cars were produced much later (the VIN's for players cars were 146xxx where as the 1LE car was 191xxx).

Good point about the 1LE brakes being available sooner Mark! I can remember the first dual piston PBR front brakes for the 1LE's were made available to select race teams at Sebring in 1988 (Firestone Firehawk) - and actually there was a shortage of rotors so many of us had to modify caprice classic rotors!

How's your car coming? Mine is just about done. Was trying to get it ready for a NASA event on 10/3 but don't think I'll make it.

Hi,

The car is slowly coming along. I am trying to find a rollcage for it and I have a line on a used one. And wheels too.

I need to get it into my garage so I can work on it more often.

In the background, I have been continuing to collect info on Players Challenge, meeting other car owners, and so forth.

Speaking of the shortage of brake parts, I have GM newsletters that discuss that very fact. Some teams seem to have some, others had none. Certainly there was a limited supply back then. GM put some rules into place in 89 that tried to control the parts. You had to have an official signed paper to buy parts.

And for those who care ... the brakes used in 1986-1987 were a combination of Caprice calipers, a special bracket and Brembo calipers which ... believe it or not ... cross references to some ferrari part number! Egads ... image price on those pads.
