Can anyone tell me where to buy a new rear window for a 3rd gen? Please don't call me stupid, but does a regular auto glass store sell it or dealers? I see thirdgen.org and hawks don't sell it. Thanks! Andy

I guess the first thing I'd do is check your local salvage yards. You should be able to find one pretty cheap there.

I would guess most auto glass places would have them or have to order them through GM

Where I would call the local Auto Glass places If they have them they will install them for you & you dont have to worry about not getting it in right & having Leaks.

I'd go the junkyard route as I'd dobt very seriously that any glass place would have something that large and would have to order it,especially for an older car. It'll probably be just as expensive as getting it from the dealership or online.I believe that I heard that they were over $1k in price new.

Ask around at your local glass shops and compare pricing. Our rear windows were manufactured by two companies, LOF(Libby Owens Ford) and PPG(Pittsburgh Plate & Glass). If you request these brands you can be assured of the same fit as OEM as GM never manufactured thier own glass and even to this day they still do not. Now on 2003-04 vehicles you will find a GM insignia stamped into the glass but its still not manufactured by them but merely contracted out as they have always done. To determine the manufacurer of the glass find the stamping on the glass and look for the DOT(Dept of Transportation) number. This number is a registered number that assigns a certian manufacturer to a number and this number is never re-assigned to other manufacturers. Not too sure but LOF could be a DOT#11???? Anyway you can always find the glass no problem, the harder and more expensive find is the right and left metal mouldings that cover the edge of the glass. They are dealer item only I believe. They are not sold as a kit,or atleast last year when I had to buy some they were not. Left and right are the same price, somewhere around 3-4 hundred a piece unless GM has changed pricing since last year. IMHO track down a used glass in good condition unless you have an insurance claim on it

Thanks for the help, I never tried the dealer as my front windsheild was replaced by a local shop when the car was repainted last year. Shop friend ordered it for me was like 250 for it, but I never considered the rear.
My main problem is the rear moldings that are rusting out and makes the car look like crap. Had it painted last year and waxed it a lot but it still rusts out. Andy
