I've seen these in pictures and on ebay for sale, what is the purpose of this pulley?

if its the pulley i am thinking you are talking about it is the a/c delete pulley and bracket....

You can remove the AC. This saves on ton on weight. The pulley just takes the place of the big ole compressor, and allows you to use the same belt routing.

...well, weight is an issue, but I think most of us who've done it, do it for a MUCH cleaner looking engine bay!

...except for you hardcore racers out there!

Oh yeah, and if you do buy one, go through the link from MDFormula. GMPD is great to deal with, and that part is pretty cheap. They REGULARLY go for more than that on Ebay, and they're USED. Just goes to show a little research can go long way. I've also heard of people getting the wrong part off of Ebay. I guess the LT1 pulley looks the same, but isn't quite identical.
