Vinyl Spolier....

My 86 Trans Am has the black vinyl spolier. Needless to say after 18 years its starting to show its age. I rarely see 3rd gens with the vinyl spoiler. I was hoping i could find some place that makes em, as i doubt GM still makes them. I really dont want a body color fiberglass one as i think the black helps to offset the color of the car. Anybody have an info on a company that makes repros?

I assume you mean the urethane aero spoiler from the T/A and Formula. These typicaly rot off pretty quicly. I would go with the fiberglass and paint it black. Any new spoiler that you get would have to be painted. The factory urethane type aero spoilers would be pretty expensive. When GM was making them they sold for about $1000. Since supply is drying up, expect the price of a good one to go up. Fiberglass reproductions run about $500, and are paint to match like the urethane.

Good thing about the black ones are that they are a flat black, no color matching. Body shops should be able to shoot one for a reasonable price.

And lets not forget the weight difference, the fiberglass is alot lighter.

Yeah, thats pretty much what i figured. Oh well, mine is still in pretty good shape, i put plenty of Black Chrome on it during the summer and winter to keep it from drying out. Looks like i'll be investing in a fiberglass spoiler in a few years. Hmmmm....I might just pick up one of the fiberglass ones and then store my urethane one. Oh well, we'll see. Thanks for the info!
