I own a 1986 firebird ( transAm or camero)..i have been trying like hell to find a very hard to find piece, with no luck and sometimes i dont think people know what i am referring to..I am looking for a Amplifier, which was optional equip, when car was new..part number was 16040752..does anyone out in Pontiac Land have any knowledge on this or can help me out???????????..the switch was located on the dash panel..it says GAIN with a slide bar..the switch was connected to Amplifier i am looking for..please..anyone..thanks

 

I believ what you are referring to is the illustrious Subwoofer Cutout option. It had a gain switch in the dash, 150 watt amplifier( i believe), and a factory mounted 8 inch subwoofer in the trunk. This was put in the dimple in the trunk well. I have heard of others coming with two subs mounted in a custom box, but i dont know.

I myself have only seen one car come with this from the factory. If I hadnt forget where the guy lived, i might have gone an yanked it . Anyway, if yours came that way from the factory, you have a pretty rare option. I ask people about it but they look at me like im crazy. Anyway, i hope you can find it, i'll do a little searchin myself. Good Luck!

More like 15. At least thats all it'd need to be. Came with the amp (its mounted above the passenger's feet, behind the 'glove box', the switch and slider on the dash, and some 'ported' enclosures where 6x9's usually reside in the sail panels with HUGE 4" woofers. I think someone said they were 5" or 5 1/4", but they are tiny at best. Waste of time to reproduce, IMO.
