My Camaro

After reading many of the posts in this section, I figured the story of my camaro would fit in.....

Get ready for a novel

About three years ago (I was 19) I was right in the "Fast and the Furious" with my '93 civic hatchback, bodykit, rims, slammed, stereo.........never thought I'd go "domestic". One day I was coming home, and I noticed that my neigbours barn door was open, and that there was a car inside under a tarp. I walked over and asked him what it was. Before I even asked, he said "you know anyone who wants to buy a camaro?" Since I was big into honda's at the time, as well as my friends, I said no, and did'nt even bother looking at it. He then informed me that he had a nitrous oxide kit for it, never installed, that he'd throw in too. I told him that I wasn't really interested, but I'd tell some people about the car/nitrous. A couple weeks went by and the camaro did'nt move from the barn, or got uncovered. At this point I still had no clue what year it was or anything about it, I just knew that it came with nitrous. At one cruise night I was taking to a couple of guys who had irocs, and asked them if they knew anyone that wanted to buy a camaro like theirs. The one guy was interested, gave me his number and asked me to call him with information on the car. The next day I went over to my neighbours house and asked his wife if I could look at the car. She took me to the barn and we pulled the cover off. There it was...1982 Metallic Blue Z28, centerlines w/275's in the rear, louvers and the nitrous kit still new in the trunk compartment. She left me with the car to look around, so i did. This car was mint. No rust, dents scratches or anything!! The interior was mint, engine was mint (chrome valve covers and breather)......this car was beautiful. And the best part.......56,000 KILOMETERS!! Thats right i'm in canada...KILOMETERS!! My outlook on these cars was instantly changed. I wanted it, but I figured that the condition and the mileage would make it quite valuable. Since my neigbour wasn't home I did'nt know the history of the car, but his wife said it was there before she was. That night I went over and talked to him about it. Story is: His father bought him and his brother brand new camaro's on their 16th birthdays, and he has had his ever since. He went to University far from home in 86' and the car was put away basically stock, but he got it completely zebarted before. He lost interest in it after that, and never did anything with it until the early 90's. It got centerlines, engine dress-up, bigger exhaust/flowmasters and painted all blue from the original red/silver. He drove it for a couple of summer's until he had a kid, then put it away again till I came along. I told him that I knew a guy that was interested in it and wanted a price. He told me to have the guy come down, look at it and give him an offer.
That night I could'nt even sleep....the camaro was all I could think about, and the honda was become more and more distant. I told my dad about it, and I guess he went over and took a look at it too when I wasn't home. Now my dad has a way of perswading people to sell stuff cheap.........and well........that night when I got home from work my dad was like......"we have to talk". Now I'm thinking I'm getting in sh*t for something again. He said " I talked to Jim (neighbour) today, and thats a really nice camaro he's got. I'm sure would look better in the driveway than that **** rocket". I told him, that their was no way that I was going to sell my honda, and have no car for awhile while I save up the rest to buy the camaro. He's like " WHAT DO YOU MEEN SAVE UP? YOU CAN'T AFFORD 500 BUCKS?" ................You can just imagine the look on my face. Lets just say I got NO sleep that night. The next morining was over there with a battery and 500 dollars cash. It took some gas in the carb, and she fired up....the sound of the flowmasters rumbled any last thoughts of the honda far, far away.....I had it home that day, rebuilt the carb, and it purred like a kitten. As for the Iroc guy, I just called him and told him that it was sold. hehe

Oh, ya.....the nitrous kit sold for 500 bucks a month later so i basically got the car for FREE!!

End of novel.....

As for the car now......make a mistake of making it my daily driver for a year......seen it's first (but last) winter, i know......and a deer ran into the drivers fender. I could'nt stand to see it aboused anymore and shortly it was replaced with a Chevette, and is now stored in a heated garage again awaiting its full restoration.

Here's a pic of it at a local car show....a week after I bought it!
