Restoration question...
I am just wondering what everyones opinions or views are on this subject. I know many of you have done this before, but i am thinking about changing my 84' by replacing the front clip and fenders from a 88 camaro, so the style will change slightly... i am just wondering what views people have on that... and how you technically view this car afterwards... of coarse the VIN will always reflect it as a 84', but if you change enough things to converty it, do you still say 84' or whatever year you change it too? i am just curious how people see this...
thanks
thanks
I would not call it an 88 because it will always be an 84. What I would say is it is an 84 with 88 sheet metal, that way there is no question as to what year it really is. To me if you call it anything else that would be deceptive.
But this is just my opinion.

My car is pieces and parts of three cars; '91 Camaro, '91 Trans Am and an '84 Camaro.
If I'm purchasing parts from a parts store it depends on what car that part came from as to what I tell them my car is.
The title is an '84 Camaro and I refer to it as an '84 Camaro even though it has:
fuel tank, fuel lines and rear taillights from '91 Camaro
complete rear w/ posi, dash, center console, sway bars, steering box, ecm, complete wire harness, heater box & controls and TPI from '91 Trans Am
And a bunch of aftermarket products that were on the '91 Camaro that I swapped into the '84 Camaro; 350 engine, Edelbrock headers, Pro-Built Automatic transmission, Hooker exhaust, Walbro fuel pump, etc..

My firebird is still a 84 but with bumpers from an 87, interior and dash from a 86, engine swapped from the 4-cyl 151 to a 87 305 (from a Camaro) etc etc. Whatever you do with your car is your personal preference but it will still be what it used to be like mine. I just done this because I like the look of certain options, changes done on the 3rd gens and enjoy working on it and driving it. All these projects typicly cost way to much money and you will never increase the value of the car unfortunatly.
My 89 20th Anniversary model is a different story, I keep that one strictly original looking and I'm in the process of a complete restauration and do use parts from donor cars that properly interchange for that year.
