Should we get this TA
Should we get this TA
We have found a 1986 TA, its an automatic, 5.0 TPI, 3.45 gears, disc breaks, 140mph speedo. The guy is wanting $1700 for it. It definitely needs a paint job and some body work, new tires and when you start it up it puffs out blue smoke, but the woner said it only does it after it has been sitting for awhile, could that be a sign of a cracked head? The blue smoke sounds like the valve seals.
Sounds like a pretty good deal. Wouldn't hurt to try and talk him down a few...

I would say valve guides or valve guide seals. With that many miles on it, I would just drive it and keep an eye on the oil until you can rebuild the engine or find another one. 5.0's are not hard to find.

umm, I might be wrong here, but I thought the 3.45 came with the M5 and TPI setup???
the M5 paired with the TPI was introduced in 1987 if I remember right, along with the 350...
Ummm, something sounds fishy...
BTY, 1986 was the worst year for TPI and performance
