It is so refreshing to see a clean and rare 82 Firebird S/E.
It is beautiful, please keep it clean (and stock)
The only 82-84 SE's I have ever seen have been in the junkyard

I do Plan on keeping the bird in as original condition as possible, but those hoods from RamAirHood.com sure would give this old bird a little Attitude
and it is a Bolt on part so I could swap back n forth
If my build sheet was in better condition I would scan and post it, but it's tattered up pretty good. I ordered one of the packages from PHS so I will do a scan when it shows up.
Here is partial list using the thirdgen rpo decoder, I hate typin
WS6 : PERFORMANCE PACKAGE, SPECIAL
J65 : BRAKE SYSTEM, PWR, FRT & RR DISC
D42 : SHADE, RR COMPT SECURITY
YR2 : SEAT FRT, CUSTOM
AU3 : LOCK CONTROL, SIDE DR, ELEC
LG4 : ENGINE, GAS, 8 CYL, 5.0L, 4BBL
NK3 : STEERING WHEEL, SPORT, SOFT RIM, SIMULATED LEATHER
C60 : HVAC SYSTEM, AIR CONDITIONER FRT MAN CONTROLS
YS2 : REAR SEAT, DELUXE
A01 : WINDOW, TINTED, ALL SHADED, W/S
Unable to locate code M24 in our database!
N10 : EXHAUST SYSTEM DUAL
T93 : LAMP, TAIL & STOP, SPECIAL
Y06 : RING GEAR, 9.50 IN., SAGINAW, (S.P 0.)
A31 : WINDOW, POWER OPERATED, SIDE
G80 : AXLE POSITRACTION, LIMITED SLIP
N33 : STEERING COLUMN, TILT TYPE
U21 : CLUSTER, INST, OIL, COOL TEMP, VOLTS, TACH
K35 : CRUISE CONTROL, VACUUM RESUME
A90 : LOCK CONTROL, RR COMPT LID, REM CONT ELEC RELEASE
GU5 : AXLE REAR, 3.23 RATIO
N65 : WHEEL & TIRE,SPARE, SPACE SAVER, STEEL
U75 : ANTENNA, POWER, RADIO
Unable to locate code W69 in our database!
B94 : ORNAMENTATION, EXTR EMBLEM, BODY, VAR I
C49 : DEFOGGER, RR WINDOW, ELECTRIC
D80 : SPOILER, RR END PNL
YT1 : BUILD UP DR & QTR
AR9 : SEAT, FRT BKT, EUROPEAN STYLE, PASS A DRIVER RECL
C25 : WIPER SYSTEM, RR WINDOW
The M24 B/W 4 Speed was not in the database, and the W69 rpo, S/E option also
My fingers still hurt after takin that shortcut

That sounds like a pretty nice car. You have the rpo for a 9.5 ring gear, so is it still a ten bolt? I'm a little slow but I thought that all third gens got 10 or 9 bolts with 7.5 or 7.625 ring gears.
Edit: I wish I had searched first I feel really stupid since it was a typo and should be 7.5. Nice car either way.

I did'nt pull out the ruler last year when I changed the gear oil so I cant say for sure that it is in fact a 9.50.
But, do a google for y06 and every site that comes up with a decoder shows that rpo as a 9.50 saginaw.
I may pop the cover this weekend and check it out, I love the smell of gear oil in the morning

Ok, it must be a world wide web rpo typo?!
Here is what I found in my 82-91 f-body illustrated parts book.
82-86 Differential/Locking 7.50 ring gear (Borg-Warner)
1984 Differential/Locking 7.50 ring gear (Eaton)
82-89 asm/axle 7.50 ring rear
90-91 asm/axle 7.625 ring gear
85-90 asm/axle 7.75 ring gear
9.50 ring gears are more common in 1/2 ton trucks
Maybe i'll put off sniffin the gear oil..........
Just looked at the build sheet, Y06 = CPT K/PAD
Captain Krunch Padding????
or maybe, "Y06 CPT K/PAD, PANEL,COWL KICK(CARPETED)"
from a post here several years ago.

Yup! on the S/E you could get any of the T/A options except the fuel infection in 82, and with a T/A any S/E options were available.
I am looking for a pair of the S/E sail panel emblems, they were only on the 82-84 S/E's and were color matched more or less to the body.
In 82 they were Blue metallic or Gold wing Metallic, 83-84 came with
Silver gray
White
Royal Blue Metallic
Brier Brown Metallic
Cream Beige
& Red.
Im going to repaint the Bird this summer so it does not matter what color emblems I end up with as they would be painted to match.
The Front fender (Firebird) emblems are near the same color as the body as well as the rear Bird emblem.
And yes, I will be using the original Jadestone color it came with
I this uploads it's a pic of what they should look like.

Im still waiting on PHS, but here is a scan of the original build sheet.
It's a little beat up, but I was lucky to get it out from under the drivers seat in 4 or 5 pieces

the y06 code that comes back with the "saginaw 9.50" must be an error because on the rpo sheet i have it says "kick pad carp"... i take that as meaning carpeted kick panels
but what does the mean? any clue? i have the same code
but what does the

Thanks Again

what exactly is an SE firebird? I saw one at a local junkyard yesterday. It was an 83. It had different rims than yours though. Like line spokes.

The S/E was a mid level luxury Firebird. Could be had with anything from the Iron Duke to the LG4. Every option except LU5 was avaliable on the S/E.

The LQ9, Iron Duke was a credit delete option on the S/E, But only available on the California models. At least thats what my 1982 Firebird brochure shows.
V6 standard, V8 optional everywhere, but if the S/E was going to be sold in california the Iron duke was available.
Here is a link to a scan of the brochure,
82 S/E options

jadestone
Ive never seen an F-body with that color before, I saw a late model Buick Riv, 94,95 or so with what looked like the exact same color?
Was the jadestone a 1 year only option or a special order item?

The Light Jadestone was 82 only and from what I understand an S/E only color, At least as far as F-body's. It was available on some other GM cars for many years off and on.

Brain fart
My tattered build sheet is back up a few posts
I meant to type window sticker but it came out build sheet
PHS does a nice job, it looks yellow but is in fact white, best I could do with my old digital camera.
I got both a normal one and a laminated one also, they do a great job on the lamination
PHS does not have the build sheets for our cars, only the dealer invoice and window sticker are available, 2 out of 3 aint bad

Thats Kool, I thought the green bird was only used on the Jadestone colored S/E. But now if mine is ever damaged I know it wont be "impossible" to find another one
This means they are made of semi-unobtainium instead of 100% pure unobtainium

Thats interesting....
What color is your interior? also have you looked at the cowl plate under the hood? Id be curious to know if the original paint was light jadestone metallic like mine?
If so it would look like this, paint codes being 47D 45L 45U
during the day my S/E looks silver, but at night it looks more like a soft blue.

Paint code 29 is Dark Blue Metallic, almost a black. what you have on it now looks like a code 22, Bright Blue Metallic or very close to it for 1982 J2000 only.
What ya have on it now looks better

The interior color is like the exterior, blue or green. Depends on the lighting. The first pic of the open door looks very blue to me, but in the second pic the rear seat area looks green at the upper left with almost direct lighting and turns kinda blue as the lighting is dimmer towards the lower right.

The bird emblem looks like a plug for a the manual window crank hole for cars with electric windows. That is kind of odd as I would have thought that GM would have made the door panel with out the hole and punch the hole for manual window cars.
I find the chrome strip on the door panel pretty funky though! My 88 is pretty much devoid of any brightwork. Was this an S/E trim detail or was it on all of the early third gens?
