fuel tank size

Just filled up the tank today, i have never let it get so low on "E" before. Only took 11.4 gallons to fill up, which made me believe that there was a 12 gallon tank. My sales brochure and chiltons book both say that the car has a 16 gallon tank. So far, after consuming 1/4 tank, it traveled 51 miles, making aprox. 17 mpg.That's what the sale brochure advertises, and i would expect that after a fresh overhaul of the engine and carb. Computer is still active and works great. So, were there some TA's that had 12 gallon tanks??

Was your car originally CFI or carb? The CFI cars IIRC had a 14 gallon tank. The carb cars IIRC had a 15.5 gallon tank.

I just filled my tank today and it only took 11.4 gals. Does that mean I have a 12 gal tank???? Everyone quotes a 15.5 gal gas tank and I never can put that much in.
