im getting sick of my 82 getting called a camaro by everyone who asks about it

what is the deal with that ?

the two models look nothing alike, at all,

i dont get it

anyone who calls it a camaro- when they ask or comment about it- i just blow off and dont tell them very much because apparently they know nothing or very little about the cars.


what can you do other than tell them hey its a firebird/trans am, and sometimes when i do then they argue with me! theyre like " its a firebird?"

its crazy,.




to me its the same as calling a chevy truck a mazda car

 

People are stupid.

A lot of people ask if my '71 Trans Am has a 350 in it when its plain as day right on the shaker scoop: 455 HO.

 

 

One time i was at a gas station and the lady/clerk called my 82 t/a a camaro .I told her it was a trans am and left. sad

The other time i went to dommino's when the guy saw my car the guy freaked out and said its "kitt".I took that as a complement Regardless of the fact that i don't have any conversion parts on it yet.

 

One time I was installing the GTA wheels onto my '83 and a guy saw it and knew it was a T/A and knew those were GTA wheels but starts singing Dead Milkmen - Bitchin' Camaro over and over again.

 

people call my car a camaro too sometimes and makes me sad.And my friend always calls me david hasslhoff and that pisses me off,although I was david hasslhoff for halloween ,chest hairs stickin out and was sportin a fro

 

Yeah I get that too, however, Monday I was driving my 2nd Gen. Camaro and some dude said nice Trans Am. I give up.

 

Maybe it's because they're the same car, just a couple of different wrinkles in some of the sheet metal around the nose, and some stickers.

 

A couple of years ago when i had a 68 camaro i had a guy that kept asking about my MUSTANG!!I just looked at him like the dumba s s he was.I mean really,60s camaros and stangs look nothing alike

 

Yeah, I get "Wow.. nice Firebird/Trans Am!!" when I am driving my Camaro.. When I reply WHAT? I get, you should convert it to KITT!! AHHH... Oh well.. Like Dennis said... people are STUPID!!!!

 

I've had that happen also, and so has my brother.

Mine was with a co-worker that alway referred to my Trans Am, as a Camaro,, and he was a Mustang owner, so when it got to me, I would call/refer to his Mustang, as a Capri!

My brother, had an announcer at a car show call his 91 Firebird a Camaro, what a dork But when my brother tried to correct his mistake, this guy said, while still on the P.A. "You know the the only difference between a Camaro and a Firebird, is the guy who is driving it!"

What an a$$!!

My friends will say that just to **** me off!
Then again, as for my 20th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am, alot of people say its the best Pontiac Buick ever built! But, since it was built at a pontiac plant, it's the best Buick Pontiac ever built!
I remember going to a car show with my '70 Trans Am, and my friend took his '72 Formula. As we pulled up to park, a woman asked her husband what kind of cars we had. The stupid jerk told her that they were Camaros with the GTO front end on them!

Offhand I can't remember anyone ever calling my car a Camaro.

"Kitt" or "Knight Rider", that I get all the time (in the summer).

 

People are always confusing my car for a camaro......

 

I think this one dude I know calls my bird a camaro on purpose,Ive corrected him several times and he still says it,I dont know why.

 

I always call KITTvsKARR's '85 Camaro a "CRAPmaro"

 

My car sits in the garage too much for people to screw up the name. But when it's out, it's never been mistaken.

That's exactly what I was going to say. I even went into a perf. parts store around here to talk with a guy about headers. He asks what car it's for, I say '89 Trans am 305 TPI (well it's headers, you dont get headers for an 86 TA LG4) Anyhow, each time he referred to my car, he called it a Camaro.


....But of course, right after that he told me that Flowtech made some of the best headers out there, and when I asked him about the flanges warping, he said it didnt matter, they would still seal.

 

Never had mine called a Camaro, but my brother has called my '91 Trans a Grand Prix on several occassions!

i think the best is when a guy at the gas station asked if it had the 6.6 shaker in it... i just laughed haha

 

Mines the opposite Most people call my car a trans-am. or a Firebird? My uncle has never once called it by its real name, Everytime i correct him he says "Whatever".

 

I was showing my friends my 68 firebird the othernight and one of them who is a A HOLE was all so its a camaro im all no its a firebird hes all are you sure im all lets see yes. So he walks to the back and was all oh i guess it is. At least he can read PONTIAC. Stupid people.

I've always wondered that myself.. even people that OWN Camaros!! Do people call Firebirds Fireburds??? Umm.. no! Really bugs me! So I always come back with "Camero? Is that a new type pf car? Never heard of it." Then they write back saying that I have one! I replay with "Umm, no, I have a Camaro." Like you said.. STUPID PEOPLE!! To quote a fellow f-body owner, "Ever want to beat someone half to death.... TWICE?!"

 

never have i had anyone call my trans am a camaro or anything else, but i have had some one call my old Dodge Daytona a firebird

 

i had a friend who CONSTANTLY referred to my 91 Firebird as a Camaro, even when il be sitting there wearing my Pontiac hat or my Trans Am shirt, and the saddest part is that he has owned both Camaros and Birds and still cant tell the difference!

That wrong spelling on ebay has gotton me some good deals. who would look up an 88 camero lol i got a dual snorkle air intake for 2 bucks plus 5 dollars shipping

 

Actually, for the third gen, the camaro has visible headlights and the firebird has pop-up headlights. Also, the tail lights on the camaro wrap around the side which the firebird doesn't.

 

Sheet metal wrinkles and stickers. That's about like saying that a Pontiac Vibe is a different car from a Toyota Matrix, because they have different numbers of cup holders.

The cars have the same chassis, drive trains, suspensions, brakes, doors, quarter panels, windshields, hatches, etc; they rolled off of the same assembly lines; the only differences are minor cosmetic details..... like flip-up headlights and tail light styling.

 

With the top down, I have had more then one person ask what year corvette it was? I think most times its just a non car person that sees your nice car and just wants to say something- anything. Just be kind and give a quick explain, they won't remember anyway. But know that your car is so good they felt compelled to say something.

Im pretty sure they come off the same line. I know my 68 bird was built at the van nuys plant and my moms 79 ta was built at the van nuys plant and my 91 camaro also at the van nuys plant. It has now become a lame shopping center.

 

And to answer the question, both Camaros and Firebirds were produced at both plants.

 

Getting off topic here a little bit ....

Camaro's and Firebird's were assembled on the same assembly line. If you have ever seen old factory photos you'll see Camaro and Firebird one after each other. There were four plants Lordstown, OH(1st gen) Norwood, OH, Van Nuys,CA and St Therese, Kanuckland.(4th-gen) There were also some Camaro's and Firebirds assembled under contract in the Philippines.

 

There are only 2 plants in existance for the 1st thru 3rd gens, Norwood and Van Nuys. Yes, there were foreign assembly plants, but they were not used to assemble cars sold in the US or for cars other than the 1st gens. The cars were also partially built before they went overseas. They were basically kits that were assembled once they got to their destination. This allowed for more cars per container than a completely built car.

Lordstown Ohio is not a 1st gen assembly plant.

The 4th gens were built, as we all know, in Ste Therese.

 

Lordstown, OH produced F-bodies from 1967-1969. Thats a known fact.

In recent years, the Cavalier/Sunfire was made in Lordstown.

 

So what was the assembly plant code for Lordstown? The only 2 US plants during the 1st gen years were Norwood (N coded) and Van Nuys (L coded). Show me your known facts.

 

Lordstown plant in VIN code "U". Type in "Lordstown Firebird" and "Lordstown Camaro" and you get numerous hits over the net. I have a Firebird book that was published in 1979 and it shows pictures of assembly line workers at Lordstown. The very first production Firebird was built at Lordstown.

 

Here's a picture from the book. To quote the caption below the pic.

"The first Firebirds were assembled in GMAD's Lordstown, OH plant. In 1968, the Van Nuys plant joined F-car production, as did Norwood in 1969."

From what I found on the net, Lordstown produced Firebirds until April 1969. Lordstown Firebird production was passed onto Norwood. Previously, Norwood only made Camaros.

 

Unfortunately for me, you did say F-bodies. My mind is narrow and is usually just thinking Camaro. My response above is in regards to the Camaro. My knowledge of the Firebird side is limited so much that I didn't even know about Lordstown. I'll keep quiet for awhile now.

I thought your comment was directed at me . I know the difference between the two cars. I just don't know enough about the Firebirds to sound intelligent about them. My comments were made to my thinking about where the Camaros were made. I didn't know Firebirds were built on another assembly line for the 1st gens. I thought they were always built together.
