Factory shaved antenna?

I found trans am (about 86 model year) in the junk yard that had an antenna coming out the rear of the car on the drivers side near the spoiler and when I went to see the passide fender that should have the antenna it was clean and smooth I couldn't even see from the underside if it had been shaved, any ideas? I think im going to go back and pull it so I can use it later. Im pretty sure it was shaved and just done well and maybe they wanted to put the antenna in the rear of the car or someone bought it and added it in the rear later. I'll get pics as soon as I can.

I think that was an option you could get. Correct me if I'm wrong people...

could have been a new fender. alot of the new fenders from like classic industries dont have the hole at all forthe antenna. could be that reason for no hole.

Thinking outside of the box, maybe the car didn't come with a radio and it was all added later?? I'm pretty sure !radio cars didn't come with an antenna..

The '82 Trans Am in Smokey in the Bandit III appears to be a radio delete car although it does have an antenna on the front fender. If you look in scenes that show the rear interior side panels you see there aren't any cloth speaker covers. Its possible it was ordered with the budget AM or AM/FM with only front speakers but that car is really a stripper in that movie. The only options I see are T-Tops, Crossfire, doeskin cloth seating surfaces, and WS6.

I checked my 82-92 Firebirds parts micro fiche and there is no mention of fenders with and without antenna.

are you sure about that...I was lookin in one of my brochures and it shows the "radio delete option" as RPO code UL5
and I quote..."UL5 Radio Delete (speakers and antenna remain)"
this is an exact quote from my '91 B4C brochure.
Anyone out there with option code UL5?????

This is a pic of my 1984 Camaro Sport Coupe the day after I bought it new in 1984. This is my wife's and my first car and we had to compromise on a lot of options I wanted simply because we could not afford them. Therefore, it was a special order car with only a few options. I did order a radio delete for this car as I planned on installing a stereo from my prior car. Note the window sticker and that it does NOT have an antenna.

Very slick car Willie! What happened with it? What were the specs? I like it!

At the time I took delivery, we were engaged. Because we could only afford one car, we had to sell both ours. Her's was a new '84 Chevette and mine was my first new car, a 1983 Berlinetta. It had rare options in its own right. We could have kept the Berly, but my wife refused to learn how to drive a stick. It was a 5-speed car. And I absolutely refused to sell my car for a Chevette and I didn't care how new it was!! So our '84 SC was a compromise. It came with a V6 and auto. Notice how clear the glass is? That's because we ordered it without factory tinting. I was planning on going with aftermarket tint, so I could not justify paying for factory tint. Did you see the box in the cargo area in the pic above? I picked up a set of aftermarket wire wheels which were installed that day.

This pic was taken on our wedding. That was a long time ago. Notice the wheels, red/silver striping which I did, antenna and the black horizontal striping on the rear lamps?

Willie
p.s. We're still married!!

I like that base model. My 85 sport coupe was all bare bones except t-tops and a radio. It was a fun car

Sweet ride Willie......
just a point tho, my info was from a '91 catalog, and his car was an '84. The car that started this all was an '86. They must have changed the way they did it in there somewhere.
But all in all, the question was answered, YES, GM made 3rd gens with no antenna, just not the year I was reading about....

Maybe at some point radio became standard equipment and when they introduced radio-delete for the 1LE's they just left the speakers/antenna.

Or maybe they still had a radio option on the base models, but since the 1LE was based on the Z28, you had to get all the standard options and then they got removed.. IE, the Z28 was assembled to a point and then pulled to finish the 1LE stuff??
