asking for general suggestions...
Howdy...
I'm obviously new to the forums, and defiantly new to F-bodies....my only car that I've owned other than the car I'm picking up soon is a 1979 Dodge aspen, and well, nowhere NEAR the 1985 Firebird I'm picking up...
Anywho, I'm planning on doing some work to this car...her previous owner has babied this car, taken awesome care of her, but she still needs work, only reason I'm getting the oppritunity to BUY this awesome car is the actualy owner has passed on, and neither of her daughters want it, and they need the cash for the headstone...
I'm not going for anythnig extreme...I want this car to be a daily driver...no NoS, no weight reduction...no wacked out paint schemes...i want basic mods, and am wondering whats best to do...here's what i have planned so far:
--Weatherstripping on both doors (no t-tops, thank ***)
--new windshield -- found a place to replace it for $180 CDN - not bad if you ask me, same day service + free repairs to the glass)
--new stereo...current deck flips into AM randomly...and IF possible, the aspen has some killer 6x6 panasonic mids I'd like to drop in there (any input on how to do this WITHOUT breaking the dash pad greatly aprrectiated)
--any other misc tune ups, such as an actual tune up, oil change, tranny fluid change (does a 5 speed even HAVE tranny fluid...? -- its been a while), new rubber, test/re-do brakes if needed...a little interior work, such as killing the ash tray (saw and awesome cup holder idea in the forums here while perusing, and i can actually DO it...plus i dun smoke)....
anythnig i'm missing, plz note this car is going to be maintained, driven, and not raced (much
)...also note its about -15 C consistantly right now, and these are only the immediate things, before she hits the road...
sorry for the novel here...just want to do this RIGHT...the aspen is now my beater (when i get IT going again...), and this FB is my dream car...to be honest...

For the front dash speakers, did you mean 4x6? If so, there are several screws on the underside ledge (7 or 10mm, don't remember) and then 4 phillips in the air vent near the windshield. Then lift it up and off, being careful not to rip the foam supports off.
You can change the T5 fluid, but it isn't easy, and really isn't necessary unless it's low or might be contaminated (mine had water in it...)
Depending on the miles, you might want to go for a new O2 sensor. Not much $$ and could be bad.
Possibly a coolant flush, before the heater core goes. Not sure if they go often, or if that's just my luck
Any other questions, we're here!

168,391.5 miles. Yes, you need a tune up! lol
So definately do the thing I said above. Take off the air intake and spray some carb cleaner (OK if it's fuel injected as well) into the carb/throttle body while it's running and give it a rev so it doesn't choke out.
If it is fuel injected, get some good injector cleaner gas additive and throw that into the tank.
Check the brake and gas lines as well, exspecially where the gas lines come down under the back seat on the driver's side (might be different on a carbed car?). They like to get pretty rotten there.
